Player Review Phase 1 - Position Effectiveness Topic

I finally have something for you guys to check out for position effectiveness.  File is located at www.whatifsports.com/db/nba_poss_eff.zip.  Players were evaluated mostly by listed position and a combination of height/weight.  There was also some factoring of stats.   Let me know what you think.

I think we should load it up and play.  We can give you feedback after we see how the players perform in the SIM.  This has gotten beyond ridiculous if you really want to keep this NBA SIM alive.

100% agree - can't be worse than what's already in place, so let's try it.

Re-releasing the entire player pool is not an easy task, so I'm not planning on doing a revision release unless something is fundamentally broken.  So we need to get things right before the release.  This has been the main reason for the long delay, so once this is given the go-ahead then the release will be very soon.

Go ahead.

There, done.

Magic is less than 100% at PG in FOUR of his seasons.  Jordan is 100% at PG in all but one of his seasons.

I pasted the data into excel, then used data->text to columns

worked good although you have to format the height so they are not 6 foot january ;)

These players, among other Power Forwards, have multiple seasons at 100% Shooting Guard:
  • Barkley
  • Rodman
  • Oakley
  • Pettit
  • Gus Johnson
  • Connie Hawkins
  • Kurt Rambis

As badja points out, I saved as a txt file because Excel likes to convert anything with a dash (e.g. height) into a date.

The tough guys are the oversized guards (e.g. Lebron, Magic, etc.).  Size-wise they're bigger than a lot of PF's.  A guy like Barkley presents the opposite problem.

Red Rocha is

C - 100
PF - 100
SF - 99
SG - 100

Not a big deal, just a little strange.  This appears to be affecting a few other players (i.e. George Peeples) from that era.

Too many PF and C at SG.

Big Ben, Kermit Washington @97-8% SG.

518 player seasons of guys that are 100% at C and 100% at SG.  Zero seasons of guys at 100% PG and 100% PF.

I'll look into the issue of big guys at guard.
