Griffey Retires Topic

What is really sad is that Griffey will now have a 200K WIS season.

On the plus side, it is one more year that we can twist him back to the player he once was...and he was awesome...

he'll have another thing in common with his dad then. nothing wrong with having a 200k season. I, for one, would die for one

but yes, he is one of the best

****-in-your-soup mode: ON

Ehh, screw that guy. "Hey, I'm a natural talent. I don't need to work out. I'm just phenomenal. My DNA is held together with red stitching and has the MLB logo between the rungs."

...and then he playes 130+ games *once* after age 30. Feh.

****-in-your-soup mode: Aww, who am I kidding? Still ON. ONNER, maybe. Honest.

At least he decided to retire now and quit embarrasing himself, save some face.

he hung on a little too long, but it shouldn't tarnish his imagine. Otheres have done it. Consider Killebrew, Mays, Hammerin' Hank, Snider, Kaline, Ruth, Joe Morgan, Bunning, Rose, Cepeda, Brett, Marquard, Banks, Stargell,McCovey, I could go on and on. Seems like a lot of these HOFFERs hit the wall around 37, 38, 39, 40 years old and hang in there a bit longer just to be sure their skills are really gone. I don't blame them. I'd do the same thing. Just sayin'......

Hell, I'd play until forced not to, sure.

That's what I did, but in my case it was after one year of player pitch.

They had a stat on the Dan Patrick show today comparing Junior with Bonds I thought was interesting:

At age 30, Junior had 400 something HRs and after 30 he had 200 something

At age 30 Bonds had 200 HR's and after 30 had 500 HR's.

The point being Griffey did it the honest way and got worst as he aged (like all of us) where Bonds got better because...(fill in the blank)

Sweetest uppercut swing that ever was.
