I have been examining teams from other leagues, and I notice that, even though dead ball era P's HR+ numbers are rather low (numerically), they don't seem to allow as many HRs as modern day Ps with comparable HR+ numbers. What numbers can we reference to get a reasonably accurate projection of a P's propensity to allow the long ball? Also, are P's rated for "invisible" stats, such as the extra base hits they allow?

Thank you Grizzly_one. Can you offer an opinion on my 2nd question, regarding 2b and 3bs?

Thank you Griz.

Zubinsum made a chart a while back that showed how many HRs you could expect a pitcher to give up, given his hr/9 and his hr/9+. I don't know how accurate it is compared to the hr/9# that they added in the last update, but either one is pretty close.

XBH's are 81/19 dtermined by hitter/pitcher. ERA+ is what you'd look at for that if you want. Unless I was drafting a crap ton of doubles and playing at Sportsmans Park, I probably wouldn't even bother looking at that stat.

Exactly. The only relevant stats for pitchers are oavg*, BB/9*, K/9*, HR/9* and the year they pitched.

*include direct derivitives like oavg+, oavg#.

Why do you care about k/9? Does it have to do with balls in play?

Indeed. High k/9 = less balls in play = spend less on defense.

Low k/9 = more balls in play = spend more on defense.
