Managerial Settings Topic

I've seen many posts about pitch count settings and pull settings etc, but I haven't seen too many that explain the effects of Managerial Settings. Usually, I leave all at 3-Average, but drop the pinch hitting down to 2-Infrequent because I set my lineups daily and whoever I start I want hitting the entire game.

Has anyone figured out how these settings really effect your team positively or negatively? I just started a new team with most of my starters with decent speed and decent SB success rates. I'm thinking of boosting all baserunning Managerial Settings: Hit and Run - 4 Agressive, Baserunning-4 Agressive.

Am I going to see any measurable results vs leaving these categories at 3?

When I have a all out speed team.I set base stealing at 5 myself.

Set IBBs to 1 or you will be kicking yourself later.

That's the best piece of advice you can have in the Team Managerial Settings.

This is the only one thats MANDATORY in my opinion, but base stealing and or hit and run should be tailored to team and park.

HIT & RUN. 0 or 1. I think it's an anti-percentage play, I don't trust how Sparky uses it, and I don't fully understand it.

BASE RUNNING. 2 if I have a high scoring team or a HR team because I don't want to be making outs on the bases. 4 for a low scoring slap-hitting speed team. otherwise 3. 1 is too cautious, 5 is too aggressive except in extreme cases.

IBB. Zero. One of the worst plays in baseball.

PINCH-HIT. 4 or 5, then exempt everyone I don't want to pinch hit for, including picthers who can hit.

PINCH-RUN. 4 if I have pinch runners. Note that if PH and PR are 5 you could use up your roster too quickly in a close game.

BUNT. 0 or 1 for all good hitters. not a good percentage play.

SB - mostly depends on CS%. anybody thrown out half the time should be set to 0. need about 75% success to give him a 3. 90+% for a 5.

Wow, surprising that you feel so strongly about this one. I think IBB has some practical application in 'real life' baseball, but I understand we shouldn't compare that to the sim.

So, if I know I have an upcoming series with a team with 1 super slugger surrounded by a bunch of weaker hitters, wouldn't I want to consider bumping that setting up?

i used to have many theories

now i just leave them all at 3

It is odd how bad Sparky can be. Part of that is the complexity and nuance of baseball strategy, but I've still seen lots of real boners from Sparky.

are sacrifices based on real life sacrifice ability? cause sometimes against against tough pitchers i like to put everyone at 3 or higher figuring ill have to scratch out runs any way i can

I had Sparky pull one a couple days ago I hadn't seen before. I was up significantly, so he pulls the starter (CF) for rest in the seventh. In the eighth, he pulls the player inserted to rest the starter for a defensive replacement (no change in score)! No PH, just rest/defensive changes.

Hit and Run and Base running vary by team for me. Double switches and pinch hitting will get a 1 or a 2 at best. IBBs get a 0 or 1 one, although I have upped that setting to as high as a 4 when facing an extremely unbalanced lineup.
