4 point play, 9 seconds in. Sometimes I really do wonder what they did wrong that made 4 point plays so common.

I think they just determine that there is a foul while shooting without checking to see if the attempt is a 3pter.

It's similar to when they had offensive fouls as a part of turnovers so Wilt fouled out alot.

well, a possession is supposed to go:

usg% - who ends the possession?
shoot a fg or turn the ball over
if shooting, is it a 2 or a 3?
did the person get fouled while shooting?

There should be some factor that decreases the chance of a foul occurring if it's a 3. There should be an increased chance of a foul if the shot is in the paint. That'd help make guys that lived at the line (like Dantley, West, Barkley, Mailman) more valuable in the current sim, and maybe we'd quit seeing Ray Allen have as many or more ftas than Wilt Chamberlain.

what if your opponent is running +3? should that have any bearing on this?

The defensive positioning does in fact play a part in how often fouls come up... and I believe this is the primary reason behind perimeter guys getting to the line as much as or more often than paint guys. I think for simplicity sake, the +/- function of defense should account for fg% ONLY... it makes the foul settings far too whack. Common sense says that it should play a role in fouls, but it's not implemented well, so I would like to see it reworked.

(for that matter, it isn't really implemented well for the fg% thing, either, but that's another can of worms)

the Celtics are closing out the perimeter effectively, not seeing a ton of Magic players waltz to the line for the &1 after making their 3 - then again the Celtics' +3 setting actually seems to work

I recall seeing Tom Chambers get fouled on a dunk attempt from the 3pt line. If I recall correctly Chuck Person fouled him pretty hard.
