you say that's typical in an OL? Is that a .24 ERA? If so, I highly doubt that's a common line. Still, pretty impressive.

He's a y that's why. Alot of owners stay away from LH SP like the plague. With all the switch hitters used in the sim its not as bad as people think but there are more RHB than LHB no doubt.

What people fail to realize is sure, theres more RHB than LHB BUT, and this is a huge but, the average LHB is MUCH better than the average RHB. Since the fielding change you see guys like Cobb, Hamilton etc alot more often not to mention old reliables like Cy Williams and all those Ruth seasons.

LHP are better than they used to be and should not be completely eliminated from your searches anymore.

I would think he is just to expensive for 240 innings. There are way more cost effective SP for 9 million than the Dutch.

With that being said, he never would come up on my searches because his hr/9+ is 98. For nonprogressives my baseline # for that is always much higher. I am going to rethink that now....

That HR+ number, with dead ball era pitchers, has become a common topic of debate in the Forums. It seems some pitchers with low HR+ numbers give up huge numbers of HRs, but the "elite" of that group seem to fare better. Thunder1008 doesn't divulge his ball park, but i would guess it is the Astrodome, Petco or SBC.

His average hr allowed according to performance history is 7. Pretty low.

He never used to come up in my searches either because of the sub-100 HR/9+, but since the introduction of the HR/9# stat I completely ignore HR/9+. And 14 Dutch Leonard's HR/9# is a decent .22, despite the HR/9+ of 98.

By way of comparison, 1997 Roger Clemens has a HR/9+ of 365, but his HR/9# is also .22. It's my understanding that you can expect Clemens to give up about the same number of home runs as Leonard.

And acccording to 1997 Clemens' performance history he gives up on average 10 HR/298 IP (for a .30 rate) compared to Leonard's 7 HR/249 IP (a .25 rate).

I used him several times when the new salaries came out. he was good enough but not quite the bargain he looked on paper. haven't used him in awhile.

Actually using Dutch in Colt. I've convinced myself, rightly or wrongly, that Colt is a pretty good pitcher's park that doesn't unreasonably suppress the power hitters in my own lineup (-1/-1) and lets Willie McGee hit his triples (+1).

Dutch hasn't given up any HR's yet, but I'm sure that will change -- probably as a result of posting this thread in the first place. And, to respond to alebenta, 0.24/.126 is obviously better than the usual ERA/OAV performance Dutch gives me. All I meant was that typically his pitching lines for me are good and worth the $8.9 MM expense.

I kind of like that whole cadre of ultralow OAV/ERA, low IP (200-250) guys in the $7.5-$9 MM range -- Dutch, Doc White `06, Mordecai Brown `04, etc. though it requires juggling my rotations a lot and looking for lots of innings elsewhere to compensate.

i've drafted him before, with success. the only real downside i remember is having to make sure you have a quality bullpen due to the low ip/g. but i'm thinking he would be a great tandem starter.
