I have read the queries in the forum regarding using tandems, and their outcomes appear to be more complicated than what I simply want to do. It reads like the SIM goes in and manipulates things if one of these options is chosen.

My four starters are 13 Johnson, Joss, Maddux, Martinez (the good ones.) I'm at the point of the $255 cap season where I want to pitch the order laid out below. . . Right now I am doing it by hand, going in and putting either Maddux or Martinez on rest so they skip a turn with Johnson and Joss pitching every 3rd day. I sense that either starter #3A and #3b is what I want, or the Tandem arrangement is. I am not concerned with pitch count or what another player is doing with his lineup. I want to be able to set it up, leave it and know what I want done, is getting done.

Should I just continue doing it by hand? (juvenile humor accepted here)

Tandem will not work the way you would want, as that pitches BOTH pitchers in the same game.

The Starter 3A/3B will work perfectly for your situation.

Johnson - Starter 1
Joss - Starter 2
Maddux - Starter 3A
Martinez - Starter 3B

If you set it up like that, it will work exactly as you have it laid out above.

This. I would advise not doing it by hand unless absolutely necessary. It's always nice when it's done for you. You know, just sit back, relax, and have confidence that what you want to happen is happening.
