I have had reasonable, though not outstanding success lately, with teams that feature 1885-1939 players with resonably good (Band C) defensive ratings, and pitchers from the steroid era. i thinnk the teams should be doing better than they are, and I wonder if I am making a basic error in my evaluation of # numbers. Players from that era always have significant upgrades on their HR# numbers from RL, and I have been putting them in +1 HR parks. Is this a mistake?

Whats the hr/9+ for your pitchers. You might be getting hr bonus on your hitters but hurting your pitchers alot more. Personally, if I'm using modern day pitchers, I have to go with -hr parks.

I set my search at HR+ 190 or higher. I have been using crosley or redland, -1, 0,0,+1,+1. after I posted this, I started looking a little harder at the stats, and I think my problem has to do with drafting entire offenses of these types of hitters, where I think I would be wiser to draft more table setters to accompany the HR guys.

That makes sense to me - I did the same in a Coors to good effect.

The alternative is a high BB/high HR approach, but I only got that to work once, in a specialized theme league.
