Hey y'all

Im a LIVE player only that after 5yrs is finally getting the hang of winning...I have a team going to the TOC and was wondering if anyone had any advice on pull setting and such for my staff?

S1 08 Joss
S2 00 Pedro
S3 09 Summers

MOP 2 rooks
LA 09 Haren
SUA 09 Breslow
SUA 09 Feliz
SUB 09 Babe Adams
SUB 67 Carlos
CLA 08 Rivera

Team is in Petco.

This is only my 2nd TOC and havent ever really used settings as after only 1 team in non live I got hooked on LIVE!

Any advice will be appreciated...thanks in advance

I really don't know all their innings totals off the top of my head but remember that in a TOC you'll need a fairly deep rotation.

So I'd start Joss, Pedro and Adams in a 3-man rotation, with the expectation that you might need to start Haren once or twice. Joss/Adams should be around 300 IP so they should be good for 80-90 pitches. I'd set their pull to 1 or 2. Pedro really should be on a pitch count of 70ish to survive but I'd push him to 85-95... maybe start him in game one so he can get started on his recovery.

Then I'd set all your relievers to around 10-15 or 15-20 pitches.

Pedro cannot go every third day in a TOC. You will need a deeper rotation. Honestly, you need more pitching. The problem with Live teams is that you can manage the innings to the bone during your Live season so you don't overdraft IP. In the TOC you need more than ever. Every Live team that had any success in the TOC was loaded with IP. My early TOC's were a disaster.

1st of all thanks for the responses fellas...i get what you mean Bilfey the total IP is 1426 not counting the 2 rooks...as u said during the season I didnt need much as playing LIVE in Petco I had IP to spare!

most people go all out in the first couple rounds and then limp to the finish line. I prefer the slow pace. use your 4th starter, dont overuse the best of your bullpen, use a bench player where your starter is a little lite on PA. losing early is no big deal but if I advance to the 4th round I want a strong team.

Just to be clear...you are saying use Haren (my 4th starter in the regular season) in my rotation to go with a 4 man rotation in the early rounds?

I would. TOC fatigue is a *****.

Yeah...after talking to some in LIVE that have been there as well i think im gonna go with:

(Rnds 1-3)
S1 Pedro
S2 Addie
S3 Haren
S4 Summers
S5 Addie

(Rnds 4,5)
S1 Pedro
S2 Addie
S3 Summers
S4 Pedro or Addie
S5 Addie Or Pedro

Of course I know this is pure speculation as Ill probably get bounced in Rnd 1 but WTH...lol

(As a side note this would be alot easier if i hadnt been an idiot and Bob Milacki in AAA instead of calling him up at the deadline, which is why I drafted him in the 1st place...dammit!...lol)

I would only ever start Milacki in a game 5(7) anyway. Once you start him he's pretty much out for the tournament. I use guys like that in relief and start them the first last possible game of a series that I don't have my #1 starter fully rested for. Earlier must-wins I still use him in relief since they lead to future must-wins anyway.

Ok after playing the WS (and winning yay!) One thing was absolutley determined...Babe Adams will NOT get a start! I will take my chances with Addie,Pedro,Summers with Haren making a spot start if needed. Babe Adams will remain as SUB where he excelled in regular season and playoffs! Once again thanks for all the suggestions and help fellas (thanks to habs and dtowne who helped as well chatting in LIVE!)

Carlos is a good bet to start a must win game as well. He won game 7 of a TOC for me in one of my titles.

I feel like the only way to win a TOC is to go like 9-0 or 8-1 in the first few rounds, and get additional rest while your opponents tire themselves out, so I'm in the all out in the first few rounds camp. If you play fewer games, you fatigue less. And if it so happens that your opponents had to go to the deciding 5 or 7th game, even more rest for you.

It's a race to 17 wins. You do whatever you have to do to win the next game.
