max pitch count question Topic

I try to research the forums for the answer to my many questions and I can usually find the answer, but here is one that I could not find:

If I set my starter to have a pitch count of say "90" and set the max pitch count to "none", are they supposed to stay in if the game is close? That is what I want. Trial and error is not helping much.

I would rather take my chances with a tired Jake Peavy in a close game than sent it to #^&#%^ John Franco, so he can give up 3 runs in the 8th inning.

Note to self - Don't draft 1990 John Franco in the future (also 2003 Mark Prior and Frank Gilmore)

Depends on what the pull setting is.....if you put max PC as "none" he'll pitch as long as he is pitching well (as set by the pull setting).

If it is 1, he'll probably pitch a long time. If it is 5, he'll get pulled as soon as he gets in trouble.

Aside from mops, I wouldn't give any pitcher a max PC of none.

In-game fatigue will catch up to any pitcher. Peavy's highest IP/G is 6.77, which means he'll be "fresh" for just over 100 pitches. If I wanted to "stretch" him, I'd put his max at 120-130, tops.

To disregard a pitcher's IP/G is to play with fire, IMO.

It still bothers me a little the way that ip/g is treated as a maximum number in the sim. It actually represents an average. I feel like pitchers should get at least a 15-20% cushion to go over their AVERAGE ip/g at least some of the time...

I do it with:

low ip/g relievers (like guys under 1)
bad starters (in conjunction with a 5 pull)
mop ups

FYI - I understand you are the new guy (girl?) so we are going to let your obvious breach of edicate pass.

Never say anything negative about Frank Gilmore in any way, shape or form. He has god-like status in SIM.
