How much do you think defense plays a roll in your teams success?

I have never worried much about defense as long as it has been decent. It has seemed to fair me well with 2 TOC championships. I want to try a defense minded team, but it is my last team for a little while and I am scared it will fail. I feel that the extra avg# will create more runs than the defensive errors will give up. Anyone agree?

How much success have you had when focusing your lineup on defense?

I pay moderate attention to it. Especially with some of the more crucial positions. CF, SS, 3B, C... Other than that, I'm usually willing to sacrifice some D for an excellent bat. I definitely don't base a team strickly around D unless it is a low cap. (80M or less).

Personally I feel like fielding is a bit underpriced. Range is relatively fairly priced. You can win without range but I am not sure you could win with a bunch of C or D fielders.

The price of fielding went way up with the last update. I actually think it's a bit overpriced now.

One of my longtime favorites, 1934 Woody English, went from $2.9M (which was too low) to $4.4M (which I think is about $0.5M too high).

I pretty much ignore defense since the update. I won an OL while leading the league in errors, 2nd in - plays, and had 0 plus plays the entire season. I also led the league in runs and was 4th in ERA. I think right now it's better to spend most of your money on hitting and pitching and overcome the defense rather than winning with it.

I've downgraded my reliance upon defense recently. Give me a good defensive CF and Catcher... make sure my 3B, SS and 2B have okay gloves... and not too many of my guys have D- anything, and I'm happy.

OTOH, often it's the little things that win games... + plays don't hurt in that regard.

I'm currently trying a team that exploits what were reported as the new fielding parameters... good glove deadball guys and modern pitchers, and so far I'm happy with my results. I'm leading in most fielding categories... not sure if I'm forcing other teams to make more errors, though.
