Idea for a theme league... Topic

I am working on something and was hoping to get some advice.

I want to make a them league that has no relief pitchers. Kinda like old school baseball.

I also want to make it pitcher friendly.

These are the rules I am thinking off.

1. Teams may only have 6 pitchers.
2. All pitchers must pitch 200 IP.
3. All teams must pitch at least 30 CG.

Teams that don't comply are not eligible for the playoffs.

My thinking is that most teams will decide to buy more expensive pitchers which will limit their ability to use expensive batters.

Thoughts?

none whatsoever

anyone will tell you

actually, that's what 1890s progressives are all about

The league would be "different." The cap would be a huge factor... you don't want everyone to grab the same "old" stud... like Clarkson or King. You also will want to eliminate a 5 "300 IP" pitcher strategy.

I'd be interested to see what you come up with.

it would be low Boot. I am pretty sure I'll make it 80...maybe 70 or 60.

You can't go too low. A quick glance shows that a bare bones staff with no clones (approx. 240 IP/162 and 7 IP/G) would run 23M. That's just using the all time worst guys.

A staff with the same parameters, but consisting of "average" guys would run approx 33M.

I think that would make a 60M league hard to play. 70M would be do-able, but would be like a bad deadball league. If you are looking to recreate a "real" deadball feel, you'd probably need 80-90M. Too much more and the Silver Kings would take over... unless you had a IP cap or a blacklist.

To prevent seening the same guys on every staff, I'd instill a 2 round exclusive pitcher draft. That would make 48 exclusive SP, and would prevent you from seeing Silver or anyone else on every roster. It would also make drafting the rest of the team much more interesting knowing which top starting pitchers you will be seeing.

I dunno why everyone is so scared of Silver King in this league. EVERY PITCHER MUST PITCH 200 INNINGS. The other 5 guys pitcher AT LEAST 1000 innings, leaving way too few to put King on the team without wasting a lot of very expensive innings. I think teams with him would be doomed to failure. In a league like that I'd love to see Silver on every other team in my division.

Thanks guys.

Here is my 1st version....if you see any problems or grammar mistakes let me know....thoughts are appreciated

The ANTI Jamie Cerda League

Who is Jaime Cerda? He was a situational y for the Mets in 1992 that has the dubious distinction of having the lowest ip/g value in the WIS database. It is 0.39 if you’re interested.

Anywho, I was thinking what if modern baseball didn’t have relievers. Screw the bullpen, it’s the worst invention since some Dutch guy figured out how to shrink cabbages! Maybe it was a Danish guy, where the hell is Brussels anyway? Not important let’s move on.

All right, so the basic reason I stopped playing OL a few years ago is because there are always “loop holes” that teams exploit. I try to create theme leagues that allow flexibility without a reliance on the current dominant strategy. I don’t actually know what the current one is (and it’s probably better that way) but this league will have the same rules as an OL except:

• No AAA
• All ballparks may be used
• Injuries on
• WW (but be careful)
• Teams may only have 6 pitchers
• All 6 pitchers must pitch 200 IP (that’s why you have to be careful with WW)
• All teams must pitch at least 30 CG

Teams that don’t comply with the last 2 bullets will be ineligible for the playoffs.

When you get it, send me a sitemail. I'd probably play in this.

FWIW, Brussels is in Belgium. The home of NATO, fine chocolate, and even finer abbey ales. (Chimay, anyone?)

Other than the Brussels/Belgium thing, it all looks good except you either want "Anyhow" or Anyhoo". Probably the former.

I might be interested. What cap did you decide on?

I'm also interested. How do injuries work? What is the cap?

Players with low fatigue levels tend to get hurt and have to come out of the game with injuries on.

The Cap will be 80 million.

I meant "Anyhoo" if I mean to say "Anyhow" I usually add a "s" at the end ;)
