Pitching vs Hitting Topic

Just curious on everyones opinion on which is more important when drafting... I know everyone hes their own opinions but typically I will pick the best pitching staff for the $$ (3-man rotation--Jack taylor, greg maddux, tannehil type then 5-6 relivers) and draft decent d with the best hitting for the $$ (chone figgins, lu blue, tom daly, etc.) going with a $55M pitching/$45 mil hitting staff in a pitchers park. This has worked out pretty well before the update, but I havent done much with these teams in the playoffs and the TOC since the update. It feels like they are testing updates throughout the entire season with my all my teams' streakyness. How much has the defensive update had an effect on your teams? For those of who that have drafted defensive minded teams since the upate, are they proving to be succesful? Anyway, I want to see what everyone else's opinion is as far as drafting procedures since the update. I have tried a few different things that havent worked out very well. I never really pay much to defense besides ss/2b and CF. I am looking to beef up my lineup a little bit more without effecting my pitching too much. I understand that finding the best value for $$/IP is very important, but any other advice is appreciated. The main problem I am having is drafting relivers that dont match my starters strengths.. Usually my rotation will always have a solid winning record but I cant say the same for my relivers. It seems like its pretty much hit or miss with any reliever I chose regardless of their stats. All info is appreciated. Thanks guys

No solutions for you BornIrish, but I can offer some company for your misery. My general team building strategy is very similar to the one you suggested. A couple aces, a stud hitter or two, and some cookies to round out the lineup. Used to be, I'd make the playoffs more often than not. Now I find myself looking at a bunch of .500 squads.

It's a limited sample size, but I'm noticing players from bad fielding years are putting up some great numbers. I've stopped relying on OBP as an undervalued attribute. This is the time for grand experimenting. It shouldn't be much longer until the latest loophole is revealed.
