Post Update Fielding % Topic

If you're in a league at least 30 games in, post some of your fielding results. I have two teams cruising along at .972%. Not for sure, but I'd expect them to field at least .978, and probably in low .98X's pre update. My average pitcher year is roughly 1930. Nothing bothers me as long as it is priced correctly, but thats the thing. I'm curious if older pitchers are overpriced. My teams are hovering around .500, and I can't help but wonder if my league worst fielding is connected to that.

So, in your posts, I'm looking for you to connect your average pitching year and how that is effecting the teams fielding percentage, and also do you think its priced fair or no. If any of you have the time to do an 'opponents fielding %' as it relates to your hitters that would be nice as well. I've always drafted a lot of deadball hitters, so I may look through some box scores and see whats going on with my opponents. (If there were 3 errors in the game, would the Fld% be 90% [27/30]?)

I'm not seeing much difference (yet). only fielding .978 due to '07 Honus Wagner making an error every 3 games, everybody else is doing fine. 75% of my rotation is pre-1920. deadball pitchers are more affordable and don't seem to be causing enough errors to stop drafting them.

I expected better from Honus because of his new and improved "C" rating. perhaps the new ratings are bogus and oldtimers will continue to use tin gloves.

I'd expect overall fielding to go down because A fielders are less affordable and people are using bargain-priced mediocre fielders.

.982 fielding. My team is mostly modern pitchers. Jackie robinson at 3b (the A/D fielding version) is really hurting me. 5 errors in 29 games, on pace for 25-30.

Team 1: With very minor differences between this team and my last champs team prior to the update it is easy to compare. CL team through 112 games .989 FLD% with 41/37 +/- plays and 225 DP. Current team through 46 games: .981 FLD% with 17/17 +/- plays and 91 DP.

Pitching staff is mostly deadball players with only 4 of my 13 pitchers (my mop up, and two cheap setup Bs) post 1945. All but one of my 5 starters is from pre-1920, and other than the post-1945 pitchers above, my bullpen is all between 1925-1945.

Starters:
1898
1902
1902
1906
2002
Relievers:
1887
1926
1942
1945
1975
1985
2005
2009 (AAA)

DP and range appear to be up, especially for my D- fielders. HoJo in the old version had 49 DP and a 5.03 RF, but in the current team he has 23 DP and a 6.05 RF. Kevin McReynolds had a 1.98 RF and now has a 2.06. Both he and HoJo appear to be consistent in "-" plays, but errors are up, HoJo is errorless in both, but Reynolds has 4 errors on both teams. Sandberg's + plays and DPs are up (29 and 4 compared to 60 and 8), range is up to 6.10 from 5.93, but again, errors are up to 6 from 4.

My other post update team is from the "Performance History Virgins" theme so I have nothing to compare them to, but mystaff is as follows:

Starters:
1890
1913
1914
Relievers:
1914
1928
1955
1955
1981
2009 (AAA)

This team wasn't drafted with fielding prowess in mind, and in fact, I only have two players with a rating better than "B" at any position on the field, and that is my AAA OF who is an A-/D and my recent WW pick-up who is an A/C. At 44 games in they have a .970 FLD%.

my Performance History Virgins team, through 46 games.

Team fielding % is .985
Rotation is 1975, 1939, 1945 and 1927, with 1 deadball LR and mostly middle-era relievers.

I have mostly deadball fielders so I was curious to see how they'd do. I know it's a small sample size but the results have been very positive.

2B Dots Miller '15 is at .988, RL would be .977
SS Bob Fisher '15 is at .962, RL would be .933
3B Buck Herzog '16 is at .987, RL would be .967
1B Babe Young '40 is at 1.000, RL would be .992

This thread gave me an idea for a theme league on how to learn some tricks on defense in this version of the sim.

It's posted under "It's all about defense".
