Innings Question Topic

Need a little advice. I met the innings requirement but I only drafted 2 real dependable starters Caruthers with 698 innings & Ruth with 234 innings giving me a starter pitcher total of 932 innings. After 2 games Caruthers is back to 100% but ruth won't be healed up by his next start. Is this something I can address with my settings, or do I bite the bullet and start my AAA player (S.Olsen 07 ). Without releasing Caruthers I don't seem to have too many options to use the wire. BTW my home park in Petco which is where I'd try to start Olsen whenever possible, except when I'm on a long road trip.

well steve, live and learn. a 200ip pitcher will usually only be able to go every other 3rd or 4th game throughout the season, depending on his pitch count..whole other discussion..and unfortunatley getting 700ip out of bob is going to be difficult, not impossible but very difficult. it takes a great understanding of picth counts and a lot of free time to micro manage your team. i hate to advice anyone to go the ww..for so many reasons so instead i would set a 1 2a/b up with bob at 1 and ruth and your aaa at the other spots. good luck!

I know, kinda screwed up, just hope it doesn't doom my team, because if I can make it too the playoffs it will be a tough team to beat.

One other point I have D.Dean with his 80 innings, who I planed on using in a long A / set up role. Do I drop him for a mediocre SP, or will I be ok with the AAA. Was planning on using Dean if and when I reached the playoffs

if you have Ruth throw 40 pitches every other game he'll be OK and close to 100% each start. but you'll need a lot of work from your 'pen in those games.

If you drafted enough innings then dont start your AAA every 4th game because he's probably worse than your bullpen. some games will just have to be pitcher by committee.

steve-in the future, understand that your typical OL AAA will be crap, not totally worthless, but no one that you would ever draft on your own!

I knew my AAA would be crap, I don't know why I thought I could do what I did. I focused on meeting the innings requirement, but figured if it was not working I could still drop Caruthers and pick up 2 good/great pitchers. However because I didn't properly understand the innings min, I can NEVER drop Caruthers because I can NEVER pick up a player that will match his innings, which will always put me under the requirement!!!!

Steve, I'd suggest listening to the wisdom and experience of jfranco and rbow.

You don't have to resort to your AAA. A good option to consider is to 1) Set Caruther's pull rating to 1, and 2) set Ruth's pitch count to 40, and let your bullpen do the heavy lifting behind him every other game.

See how that goes for a while before dismantling your roster mid-season.

Good luck!

You won't be able to drop Caruthers anyway, so yes, you're going to have to push through. Try setting Ruth in a Tandem with Dean. You still won't get very deep into the game, but at least your usage will be more predictable.

Saw the last two posts a little too late. Tried on my own to pair Dean with AAA in tandom, utter disaster. Decided to downgrade at catcher got an extra 1 mil and picked up 90 D.Keiker for Dean. ERC# under 4.00. Lesson learned.
