Why are there so many scouting reports with a message something like this? Is it supposed to reflect reality? Seems to me the majority of college scholarship football players work their butts off. Does it really mean anything in terms of how the recruit will turn out? If I didn't take players with this evaluation I would only sign 3 players per cycle :)

i think what they're tellin you is how the kid rates on the social scales

let's say jconte was a ND priest in waiting

and his big concept besides to cheat for the Drunkin Irish was

Lets give every kid a rating on his seven deadly sins

from which we can tell if he'll take a bribe

I have been looking at these messages for a while and I feel that it gives an idea of how fast they will grow their attributes. Combine this with potential and it will let you know where they will end up as a senior. Saying this, potential is how much they can grow, these statements are how they grow. Keep in mind growth is also related to playing time (and also seems to promises - Fr/So start, % playing time). So, keeping the statement above, you can assume slow growth over his career, with total growth being limited by playing time and potential. Kinda like a VL rating for growth. So the messages, 'You will like this kid's work ethic', 'Always seems to want to get better' - etc may mean a VH growth level for all 4 seasons. Where the sayings of 'May not continue to work hard' etc may mean fast growth at Fr or So then a slowdown in growth. I have tracked which player is "Most Improved" on my teams for many seasons and am surprised when A rated players outperform VH players, just because of the growth attributed to these statements.

And for bag's statements, I do feel that there are statements to the recruit's ability to accept bribes, (isn't there one about roommates girlfriends or cars or something, and about impressing their friends?) vs the fine upstanding young man in his community.

I had never thought of this. My mind can only hold one thought at a time. Recruiting is beginning to outstrip my intellect :)
