I FINALLY picked up an elite - Florida State! So I thought I'd go out and use my new elite recruiting powers to bring in some top level talent. I was happily surprised to find a bunch of great players within 200 miles. I also went after a few outside my 360 hard too.

It ends up a bunch of those players I went after were less than 100 miles away from other elites (Florida) so I basically lost 50k in money that has no chance of signing those players.

I guess you have to take into consideration the location of other elites when you recruit even when they are as close as 150 miles away.

Does anyone have any other tips on doing this properly? The way things look I may end up blowing all my money and getting a terrible class with some sims!

Your first class will also have no playoff money which hurts.

I didn't realize that. Hopefully I can pull together a class without sims and do better next cycle.

Not too mention the Florida teams are probably the worst elites to be at since you are all on top of each other and can't really recruit in all directions like most other teams. You have to battle each other, and then can only go in one direction to look for other players which is going to lead you into other elites.

The more I read about FL elites it seems there's no real advantage to having one.

I mean if coaches know you have no playoff money your gonna be ****** first year anyways. And the FL coaches are going to know. At ****** *** purdue I most definitely pay attention to job changes on who might be worth battling as I am stuck in the shadows of the big10 elite.

I have FSU and Miami and will tell you the first thing I do at the start of recruiting is to check how many scholarships the other Florida schools have, what their biggest roster needs look to be, what their playoff money looks like, and if they took any sims last time to understand if they have carryover money or not. Understanding the recruits proximity to the other 2 is also important on the front end.

Appreciate the advice. I also was just hired by Miami last week so now I have the same two you have. I'll follow your advice!

Recruit nationally. Take what you can out of Florida and Georgia. Use the rest of the spots for vacant out of town players. Shouldn’t be hard to knock off sims as an elite. Only battle UF when needed depending on your advantages. TBH those types of programs require a specific formation/gameplan catered to either the opposite of your rivals.

I don't know I once spent $86k on a player for S. Florida and still lost him to Fla St. and Fla St. signed a full class of top players. That's when I realized how strong elite teams were in recruiting.

"i don't know" is a strong start. what was your S. Florida team prestige looking like at this point?

"playoff money" lmao. as if it's the only variable. cut 3 players that's 45k

one team has 8 schollies with playoff money, other team has 13 with no playoff money. OMG NO PLAYOFF MONEY

Yea but how much did they actually spend to win the guy. I have spent 80-100k 3-4x and lost every time to an elite. I’ve just assumed they have still had to spend close to that amount still?
