Does the STL come from the head coach or assist coach scouting report?
Asst Coach scout definitely. Not sure about Head Coach scout but I don’t recall ever seeing it in a HC scout. Of course, I’ve only seen 4 in total during my time here.

Whats the most VH anyone's seen on a roster? Been meaning to ask in here for a while felt this thread might be fitting

STL stands for "Sky's The Limit." Every once in a great while there are recruits with VH potential who are referred to in the assistant coach scouting notes as a player who has "Sky is the Limit" potential. They are like rational thoughts/comments from AlekTX2020....very rare...almost nonexistent.

On a HC scout you'll get a message from them about seeing you in the stands if they're an STL.

I never even red the scouting notes. Am I missing out big time by not doing that?

You can get more information than that. For instance, I've seen recruits listed as AVG on the recruit page that the AC scout said "had a lot of room to grow". In that case, you would then know the player is on the "high side" of average near the dividing line with high potential.

For whatever reason the potentials on the recruiting page and the player card and the report from the AC scout don't perfectly synchronize...so from time to time you can get other useful info from reading the actual reports.

Yeah, my understanding is each level (VL, L, A, H, VH) actually has 2 levels in it, I believe. Standard, and then higher. So some H's may actually grow like a VH, and some A's may actually grow like an H, etc.

My theory is it' essentially a random number 0-100 broken into tiers of 20 so or so, likely 95-100 being STL or something like that maybe even only 98-100 to get the STL assistant coach line. I have seen a few VH grow not much faster than an A that has a high WE though, prob fell on the low and high end of those tiers, so think it must act as some sort of multiplier to WE which I think in the end might be just as important if your trying to decide between Pot and WE.

Both these WR where damn near identical guess ratings when I recruited them in same class, 67.32 (Hall) and 67.26 (Anderson). One VH and one A pot. Both have grown basically the same guess rating wise (77ish), Hall was 0.5 Guess rating higher at start of Sr year. My guess formula has Anderson 0.12 higher at midseason, WIS role wise (wr1 &wr2) Anderson has actually grown much more. I think Hall started with 30 WE and Anderson started with 55 WE. Fr and So year Hall got more run, Jr and Sr year went more to Anderson as Halls WE wasn't climbing at all, Hall basically lost his job Sr year to #1 WR recruit in Fr class.
Name Year Pos A SPD D WE ST STR BLK TKL H GI E T POT TOT WR WRPs WRDp WR1 WR2
Allen Hall Sr. WR 62 76 62 29 70 54 43 27 80 87 85 78 VH 753 77 77 77 77 78
Kenneth Anderson Sr. WR 59 86 56 65 63 56 35 22 86 74 92 70 A 764 77 77 78 80 83

Oh yeah. Factoring in WE makes a big difference. An STL with poor work ethic probably isn't worth getting compared to an A with high work ethic.

Agreed mostly, but I did just take a VH TE with low WE tho over an A with 50s WE as I can afford to run a TE out there every play from Fr year where I couldnt quite afford to do with the WRs above. I'm wondering if this line in AC scouting "I can't say much about his willingness to keep working hard, Coach. It's just not all there." vs "This kid has the attitude we're looking for, Coach." or "john doe is an above average worker. I have no doubt you'll like this kid's effort, Coach"; is not actually much to do with current WE but how easily you can grow the WE with playing time, but I am hoping to see how much a 29 can grow starting all four years. I usually find higher WE recruits grow WE much better but I have not paid much attention to that line in the AC scouting report in the past.

On a HC scout you'll get a message from them about seeing you in the stands if they're an STL.
This caught my eye because it is definitely not correct. "Saw you in the stands" is what happens when you have scouted a recruit who is below a certain threshold for your team. That is, if you are scouting recruits of a quality that is appropriate for your team, you don't get that. If you scout recruits a little lower than that and on down, that's the sort of email you get. You can easily verify that by scouting a few recruits that are WAY below whet you want -- they'll all be happy to see you in the stands.
FYI, the rest of that "saw you in the stands" does contain information that can be useful, though it is a little vague. "Motor running" is not what you want to see, nor is "give 110%" or something like that. "Reached" or "lived up to" are among the worst. "Upside is my middle name" or something like that is what you hope for. However, none of these messages by itself indicates STL potential.
For that, you'll need an HC scout trip. Once you get the "Saw you in the stands," that's all you'll continue to get from AC scout trips, more of the same. The HC scout trip has the language that indicates STL.

"For whatever reason the potentials on the recruiting page and the player card and the report from the AC scout don't perfectly synchronize...so from time to time you can get other useful info from reading the actual reports."

The reason is that the old rating system, represented by the emails you get from scouting trips, and the new rating system, represented by the letter grades on the player card (VH, H, A, L, VL) don't have the same range of values, they don't completely line up with one another. It's not that the new system categories are broken into two levels, "standard and higher."

GD used to have 4 undefined levels for potential. The AC and HC scout revealed those levels. See bottom of page 1 of "GD Guide to the Game" for a complete known list of responses. During an update, they quantified those 4 levels into to current 5 levels (VL, L, A, H, VH) so there is some overlap and the descriptions don't match exactly now.

As the_dance07 observed, I feel those lines in the response indicate whether the player will improve early in their career (willingness to work hard etc) or throughout their career (attitude we are looking for etc).
