I think he was the first pitcher to capture my generation's attention nationwide- his 1971 season came before Mark Fydrich, Ron Guidry or Gooden had their own amazing years, and he was a year before Carlton won all those game for the terrible Phillies.
And he played for one of the most exciting and fun championship teams in history, 70s As, though that year the Orioles wth four 20 game winners (remember those?) knocked them out in the playoffs.
