Range Percentages Topic

Hi everyone

I was reading one of the other posts and the poster recommended that you keep the midrange percentage below 45. Is there a specific reason for this? If a player has a eFG% does it matter where he shoots from between midrange and the paint?

I guess I'm trying to find a good balance, but there are some seemingly good players who have high midrange percentages and I'm wondering if as a general rules i should avoid them.

I'm guessing it's one of those things where I shouldn't blindly stick to a rule, but if I understood why this is important it might help in my decision making.

Thank you!

It's not a hard rule. It has to do with defensive positioning. The default for every team is balanced, which covers mid range the most. Ideally, you want high paint guys & high perimeter guys, but no, you don't have to avoid high mid range players.

So it's more, "the default defensive positioning focuses on mid, so have good balance of perimeter and paint" instead of "the engine penalizes you if your midrange is higher than 45%."?

Thanks!

correct. There's no penalty, but you'll have more success with an extreme paint/perimeter (some of each) team than a bunch of guys shooting from 15 feet.
