how do last possession lineups work?

here is my dilemma: i've drafted a team full of strong defensive players. however, for my last 2 spots, i drafted reggie and dirk, with the intention of sitting them all game but using them in last possessions if i need a 3pointer.

will the sim know to sub them in for SF and PF if i am down by 3 with 1 or 2 possessions left?

currently i've set reggie as my last spot in the depth chart at SF and dirk at PF for 1 minute each.

any insight into this would be appreciated. thanks

they will only be available for end game situations if you start them

so to make sure i am understanding this correctly:

the last possession lineups will usually just consist of your starters?

i had MJ coming off the bench to carry my second unit so i guess i need to re-think that strategy haha.......
