Something the game is missing Topic

I have mentioned this before, but I think a new metric should be added to the game called Clutch Factor.

You could have an offensive clutch factor as well as one for defense.

This stat could be used to help justify some players that do not get near the amount of love the deserve in the sim, and can further validate other players skills.  Clutch factor could be used in deciding games in the playoffs and last second situations in close games or late in the shot clock.

Think about how it could change making a team.  Players on offense like Bird, MJ, West, Isiah, Kobe, and Magic would be taking last minute shots instead of some random jabroni.  On defense Rodman, MJ, Pippen, Dream, Dumars, and Cooper would get a bonus as a defender.  These name just a few players, but some of our compaints center around how unrealistic the sim is.  Several of us have seen last second three pointers shot by less than ideal players.

Some sample rankings for offense:

Michael Jordan 99
David Robinson 40
Larry Bird  98
Ray Allen (in last years finals) 1
Paul Pierce 82
Kevin Garnett 12
Jerry West 99
Isiah Thomas 99

Some rankings for defense:
Michael Jordan 95
Scottie Pippen 99
David Robinson 25
Hakeem Olajuwon 99
Bill Russell 99
Clyde Drexler 30
Byron Scott 40
Hedo Turkoglu 20
Vince Carter .025

What do you guys think?  (and don't kill me on the ratings they are examples and some are just jokes....expect for Vince, he's a *****)

Personally, I like the spirit of the idea.  The fact that it would need to be based on completely subjective assessments would make it a pretty tough sell here, though...but I do see the point.  A big part of the greatness of Bird, Jordan, West, and - at their absolute peaks - Barkley and Olajuwon was that they seemed to be able to will their way to the tough basket just when their team needed it most.  I'd see Jordan starting to drive through traffic, or Bird squaring up with two or three defenders hanging on him, and think "Oh, here it comes!"

My most similar pet peeve with the sim is fast break.  The real maestros like prime Nash, Kidd, Cousy, Lebron, and Ginobili should get a boost from running up-tempo.  Late-career Mark Jackson, Mutombo, and Eddy Curry should get docked on the fast break.

Some subjectivity might actually be a good idea in a world where Troy Murphy is the greatest defender of all-time.

Interesting proposal, but considering the lack of time put into the sim as it is by whatifsports, I doubt that EXTRA time would be put in to do something else.

look at the suggestions forum in basketball that is supposed to be checked on a weekly basis...no one checks it, no one cares from WiS corp.  I have never seen a business that hates its customers more than WiS.

I mean why wouldnt a team with reb %s of 33/81 and all the indicator numbers against them  (def/off chances, missed ftas  - call it a 18 rebound weighted chance head start for the other guys)  play neck and neck on the boards with a team with reb %s of 40/110?

remember felonius one game is far too small of a sample size too really get a reasonable feel for the sim....in other words I agree it is screwed up....perhaps player intellegence could be factored in as well...as we know many of the best rebounders were the most intellegent players (I am talking about Basketball sense, because Moses Malone was one of the dumbest humans on the face of the earth, but he was smart on the court).
