Why Letter Grades Instead of Actual Fielding Stats Topic

I know that I have submitted this question to admin previously, but it was several years ago before they began listing the players actual fielding percentage/range factor. At the time, I was told that the data did not exist in the database. Now that this information is available, why are we still seeing an arbitrary letter grade system for fielding stats?

Everything else in the game (well, aside from the mysterious speed rating and the CS for the old timers) is based on the real life stats of the players. Each player’s real life fielding percentage and range factor is available by clicking on a player and viewing their "Fielding Statistics". However, these players, and most importantly, their prices, are based on letter grades which are arbitrary and make up a large range of statistics (i.e. not all A+ or D- are equal - but players are priced as such).

It seems to me that since we have the real stats, that WIS could display "fielding/range" as real life FLD%/Range and price based on the player’s actual stats. For players who did not play 20 games at a position, the 20% fielding penalty could be applied to their actual stats and posted with an * meaning that the 20% penalty has been applied to the numbers you are seeing. For those who are not familiar with what a good fielding % or range factor should be a position, a simple pop-up help screen with averages at each position would help any newbies out.

Does anyone else think that it would be a vast improvement to price players and be able to search/sort by actual stats rather than the arbitrary letter system that is currently being used?

We've been able to search/sort by RRF and FLD% for a long time now...

You don't have to pay any attention to the letter grades if you don't want to.

While the sorting fact may be true, the game is still based on the letter grades, and the players price is still based on the letter grade if I'm not mistaken.  Just wondering why this is when we have the actual stats.

I think a players price is based on actual fielding percentage.  I am probably wrong tho.

It may be for no other reason than simplicity of displaying the stats. To display them now it is simple "A-/C" and gives you a good estimate, but for actual stats to display that same amount of information you would have to have something like .985/1.87 (9 characters versus a max of 5), and if a player plays multiple positions, displaying all of those in the fielding table becomes large and difficult to display very quickly (not to mention harder to sort as you would now need separate fields for each range and fielding, and then you'd also want some sort of fldg%# to give you an idea of the normalized fielding...

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have the actual stats, but the letter grades are fairly simple to use and allow for alot of information to be presented in a simple manner. It's not difficult to refine the search off of actual or relative fielding (and they have that great normalization calculator, as well).
