Tell me what you guys think about this concept:

A 24-team league.  All Yankees.

24 owners will draft "years" of Yankee teams from which they can make up their final roster.  Each owner will get to choose four seasons from which to make his roster.  For example, an owner might end up with 1927, 1954, 1982 and 1910.  Now, here's the catch:

The first year he picks, he can only use ONE player from that season.  The second year he chooses, he can use four players from that season.  The third season he chooses, he can use seven players from that season.  His last year will make up the last 13 spots on his roster.

The draft would go as such:

Round One:  1-24
Round Two:  24-1
Round Three:  24-1
Round Four:  1-24
Round Five:  24-1

What would happen?  Would guys still go for the great seasons like 1927 and 1998, even though they could only use one player from that season - just so noone else could get the great season later?  Would they pick seasons like 1904 just to get Jack Chesbro and hope to get better teams in the next three rounds from which to make up their roster?

Your thoughts please...

Only one way to find out.  I HATE the Yankees with an awful passion so I wouldn't come near a team like this if I was wearing a hazmat suit, but I know someone who's a fan.  I'll link him up to this.

I'd draft '27 right away just to block other teams from getting good players. That would seem to be just as important. Whoever picks 24th and 25th might have an advantage. You get to put a block on the second best season available with the 24th pick, and keep the best season available with the 25th. Is there a salary cap or no?

Ya, I'm not seeing how the owners in the middle of tha draft order aren't going to get screwed. The first few owners get a marquee player while simultaneously blocking others from getting good seasons, then in the third round they get first choice in the best 7-players combo. The owners that pick last, get first choice in the 4-player combo.

Interesting idea, but why limit it to the Yankees?  Might be more fun (and fair) if you opened up every team.

So if somebody takes 1927 to get Babe Ruth that does not stop the next person from taking 1921 to also get Babe Ruth and the person after that 1920 to get Babe Ruth, etc.   As many as 14 teams could end up with Ruth (although the 25 team would be better off taking Combs).  Do I have this right?

Yep, that's right.  Plus, for the record, I was just using the Yankees as an example.  You could do it with any franchise...

So, are you thinking of locking owners to franchises?  That is, if you start with the 1921 Yankees, the rest of your teams have to be Yankees too?

If I were to do a league like this, I was thinking about just using one franchise at a time (i.e., Yankees, etc.)  I never gave any thought about using multiple or all franchises.

I'm kinda getting the feeling from what I've read so far that this wouldn't be as interesting as a concept as I had first thought...

Actually, it might be alright if you opened it to all franchises.  Otherwise you're making owners use 96 seasons of one franchise.  I can see how that would be attractive, but it'd stick some owners with some really poor options.

What about this thing I just thought up - you make available, say, 4 AL franchises (say Yanks, Washington/Minnesota, Boston and Athletics) and 4 NL franchises (Giants, Cards, Pirates, Cubs)?

Matter of fact, I say go for it.  I've been trying to come up with something original for the Championship Round of my upcoming tournament - and this idea looks like it's NOT going to be it.  Besides, I've just came up with something better to go with.  If you'd like to give this theme a shot, be my guest - and thanks for the input/help.
