I've noticed something a tad troublesome with how the game selects who from my bullpen to come in and relieve the starter, and in what order. It's presumed isn't that A comes before B no?

In the game in question, starter gets relieved after 7 innings by Closer B #1, then Closer A  comes into the game, and then Closer B #2, and finally by Setup A.

What's going on? There was a good chance if my Setup A guy had come in first, they wouldn't have blown the game.

What are your settings in terms of inning available? That is my first thought.

it seems RP settings are only a suggestion and several other factors go into Sparky's decision. My guess is that Closer B was used first because this wasnt an ideal closer situation, you had a 3-run lead with 2 innings to go. if you had a 1-run lead or if it were the 9th inning then Closer A's stock would've gone up. or if Closer A is over a certain pitch count for the year even if he still shows 100% he may be bypassed if there are other options.

It may have been my Inning Available setting. I've set all relievers now to be available at the 8th inning and presumably thereafter. I would rather the sim just follow my settings rather than making some mysterious and seemingly arbitrary decision.

I went a while before I started to really tinker with the RP settings. Once I did the results were much more to my liking.

Once again, two relievers, one setup A and the other setup B and the setup B gets in rather than setup A. In this case Ray Washburn '63 over Greg Maddux '06. Both pitchers were available come the 8th inning and both were at 100%. No harm was done in this case. Could it be because I was losing and rather than use my number one setup guy, the sim chose my second best setup guy? That's the only plausible reason I can think of.

If the setting is ignored by the sim, why have it?

Read contrarian's "How Sparky Uses His Bullpen" thread.  It's a pretty good gathering of SIM wisdom about how bullpen settings and hierarchies affect Sparky's decisions.  It might give you some answers or at least help you adjust your settings.  I bumped the thread for you.
