My latest attempt to build a good pitching staff:
All of my pitchers have a HR/9+ rating of 9999, and all have BB/9# of <2.00. By league requirement all pitchers have a WHIP of >0.90, and all hitters in the league must have a BA of <0.320. It is a $120M league, so there are some very good power hitters.
My pitchers have given up the most hits, but have the second lowest ERA. They also have the lowest SLG v. pitcher in the league. I have them in Bennett, which is +3 for HRs, and they have given up a total of 6 HRs through a little more than 100 games. My offense has hit 148 HRs by contrast, and the second best pitching staff as far as HRs are concerned has given up 48, and the worst is 157 HRs.
So I have the 2nd best ERA with the most hits given up and the second least amount of walks in a HR-friendly park.
Caveat: it is a 16 team league, so it is a smaller than usual sample size. I should also note that I lead the league in double plays, and that my MI are both rated high for their positions.
I'm posting this to contribute whatever is helpful to the WIS world, and also because I'm curious about what other strategies have worked better than you expected.
