I have a SS with an A+ for fielding.

I have a C with an A- for fielding and A+ for throwing.

Almost at the halfway point of a season, the SS has 8 Errors and the C has 9.

Why? I wouldn't draft them if their defense was going to be subpar

Anyone know what this is happening?

What were their real life error numbers, and are you playing them even slightly fatigued?

pitching affects defense too...who are your pitchers?

I would say a SS on pace for 16 errors is doing pretty well if he's playing anything close to full-time...

Ya, a SS could make 16 errors over a full season and still have a .986+ fielding %.  I'd be worried about all those catcher errors though.

The SS had 8 'real' life errors.

C had 7 or something.

Neither is fatigued. But, a couple of my P's have been bad, so maybe that's it

If your pitchers are from bad-fielding eras, especially deadballers, your SS will not field as well as if they are modern-era pitchers. If you're in a high-cap league, hitters will put more balls in play and create more fielding chances, leading to more errors than the SS had in real life. And if a few teams in your division/league went heavy on speedy contact hitters, that will also increase the plays at SS. At the very least, if you have a few pitchers doing poorly, that leads to more chances.

Are they 'deadball' pitchers?

Wait until your "A" and "A+" players start fumbling around in the play-offs, that's always good for a fist slam to the table.....

The last time I did the study, FP around the diamond pretty much matches what one might expect based on pitching and fielding percentage-- except for 1B and C who make far fewer errors than they should.
