Offense-heavy spring league Topic

I just entered 2 teams in a spring league, spending about 12M on pitching (just enough to cover the min innings) and 68M on offense, home park Coors. If anyone wants to put up some crazy offensive numbers, come join me. As of now mine are the only teams in there -- I'd love to have at least a couple more all-hit, no-pitch teams in there with me.

crap I missed it. Boy will these 5 unsuspecting owners be surprised...

Yeah, it's full now. Judging by the names of the other teams, there's at least one more owner with an all-hit roster. I'll post some results in this thread once the games start simming...

I called my team "Box Score Bonanza." 62M on hitting. Would love to see your pitching staff with 12M, I was taking about the worst pitchers I could...I also went a little low 4M-5M on SS and C, and then was able to average $8-9M on other positions. I probably picked too fast trying to get in your league. Great idea for a theme league though. I'd be in if you did it.

These are my pitchers (on both teams):

I really didn't spend any time drafting them. I basically took the 13 guys under $1M with the most innings.

The two offenses are different, though. One's a high AVG team (Keeler, Browning, Duffy, Sisler, Lajoie, etc.) and the other's got 5 good OBP guys mixed in with 3 HR hitters.

And I looked at the other rosters, and there's just the one big hitting/no pitching team. Still, that'll be 6 games total where good offenses square off against horrible pitchers.

Interesting. You are one of the best in the business so I would assume you have an angle here that you are trying to test out. I would assume that you would get killed. Figuring that if they have any pitching at all, it would handle at least some of your bats and give you runs, but not 20+ a game. Your staff on the other hand seems like it could turn a marginal line-up into Babe Ruth. I guess this will prove just how skewed to offense the Sim really is.

Keep us posted.

Lots of offense for both teams in game 1, but not enough...

The 2nd game was against the other no-pitching team in the league.

My two teams are a combined 0-6, but some of the boxscores are fun.

Gehrig with 5 HR, 17 RBI leads his college basketball team to a 58-30 win.

My 62M worth of hitters gets ONE HIT by Milacki. My 3M, 200 IP starter Krukow only gives up 3ER in 7 IP.

Ha ha, contrarian23's pitching staff is what we call a "spolier."

Another high-scoring game from my spring league:

Hugh Duffy hits for the cycle, boosting his line after 6 games to .625/.676/1.188.

And Gehrig "slows" down, hits just 1 HR with 7 RBI:

Gehrig's line is .559/.615/1.382 with 7 HR and 35 RBI.

Wow good save by Perez in that second game, 7H, 5BB and 7ER in 4IP.

Interestingly I have heard all the talk about Joe Morgan being one of the worst performers ever in the SIM. Took '73 Joe at $8M for this team. After 4 games he is 1 for 12 (a single) 1 caught stealing and 1 error.

Game 5, my team piled up 14 runs on 18 hits - Morgan was 0-5. 1 for 17 now.

Game 6 Morgan 0-4, now 1-21.

Game 10, saved up all my tired pitchers for the head-to-head finale, a 66-43 slugfest:

Leaders from the combined rosters:

Runs: 35, 1899 John McGraw (in only 8 games)
Hits: 43, 1897 Willie Keeler
Doubles: 14, 1910 Nap Lajoie
Triples: 3, 1894 Hugh Duffy and 1958 Ernie Banks
HR: 10, 1927 Lou Gehrig
RBI: 51, 1927 Lou Gehrig
AVG: .683, 1897 Willie Keeler
OBP: .732, 1899 John McGraw
SLG: 1.295, 1894 Hugh Duffy
