Pick your own AAA Topic

I have never been in a league before with pick your own aaa. It is letting me pick whoever I want and not counting it against the salary cap. Am I correct in assuming that I have to stay within the salary cap on my active roster if I want to call them up? If the minor league salary cap is on, will it let me draft $20 mil worth of players in AAA?

IIRC...
Minor league cap and major league cap have nothing to do with each other. Once your team is submitted, roster moves (up/down) can be made at will. You don't need to worry about the major league cap.

Something like that. The minor league cap varies with the differing major league caps.

I read on FAQ that the minor league salary cap is 10% of team salary cap. If the cap is 100 mil, does that mean I can only draft 10 mil to AAA? Can I really call up anyone I want? Does anyone know for sure how this works?

I am also wondering if you can draft more than 10 mil in AAA and if you can call them up and not worry about major league salary cap if it would lock up making a transaction because you are over the minor league cap.

my understanding is that the AAA salaries will all be 200k once they're drafted.

you could set the rules for drafting AAA so that people can only draft above average AAA which would (I think) limit the players that could be down in AAA to about 4mil each. or you can just leave it unrestricted and people can draft anyone they want.

and the AAA salary cap would be for sending players DOWN. my AAA guys are all 200k so I can call any of them up. But I can't send down a $12mil Barry Bonds because I can only have $10mil in salary at AAA.

UPicEm AAAs are usually chosen AFTER you have formed your 25 player team up to the cap of your league. You will then get a second draft page below your team for both players and pitchers. (# and ability also determined by your league rules)

The theme league rules will tell you if there is a cap for your "to be called up" players. This used to be important to "save" or "hide" certain players for the POs but not so much now since everyone goes to 95% anyway. (Milacki rule)

Only problem is ....if a team makes the TOC from this type of league, the AAAs on your final 25 man roster will count (their actual salary, not the $200K shown) toward the TOC cap.

There is a pick for the creator of the league in your League rules ...whether or not there will be a Minor League Salary Cap (AAA or players sent down from your original team you drafted) ....check it out to see if there is a cap. Usually there isn't for UPicEm AAAs.

The AAAs will only show as $200K so they aren't the problem on any Minor Leage Salary Cap...so I believe the intent of the Minor League Cap was to avoid managers "hiding" originally drafted players (high salaried ones at that) down in the Minors, but others who have been here longer might want to comment.

Regardess of whether or not the ML salary cap is "on," you may select whomever you want and it doesn't affect your team salary, during the regular season, or your league play offs. They will always be 200k payers, whether they are in the majors or minors. When I draft a team with the U-Pic AAA option, i make a point of drafting one minimum salary player for each minor leaguer I can take, so that there is no conflict. If you get into the TOC, then that "actual" salaries of your erstwhile AAA players will be counted, so they will no longer be 200k players at that point.
