Is it worth it to alter your team and downgrade some other areas to get him on?

I have two options for a $120mil team right now, one that includes him and one that doesn't. I'm not some rookie looking for someone to make my roster for me...just curious as to if people think Ruth's worth it, or if I would be better off without him.

Roster #1 (w/Ruth) (no DH)

C - '69 McCarver
1B - '23 Ruth
2B - '79 Morgan
3B - '88 Boggs
SS - '91 Ripken
OF - '15 Speaker
- '11 Jackson
- '26 Waner

SP - '69 Gibson
- '69 Carlton
- '31 Zachary
- '32 Whitehill


Roster #2 (w/out Ruth) (no DH)

C - '75 Simmons
1B - '72 Allen
2B - '79 Morgan
3B - '88 Boggs
SS - '91 Ripken
OF - '15 Speaker
- '11 Jackson
- '26 Waner

SP - '69 Gibson
- '88 Clemens
- '69 Carlton
- '31 Zachary


My 'pen is really good and won't change regardless of roster. Basically, without Ruth, I improve at C and SP 2/3.

I'm leaning towards Roster #2, but was just curious as to how high people are on '23 Ruth and if you think he's worth the risk.

yes, if all it costs you is a little pitching and catching, i would absolutely do it. he is a monster, just make sure you have someone to drive him in :)

Well, I've got some HR pop from Ripken, but I also have over 100 triples on my team.

Why not go with the 20 or 26 ruth, cheaper and way more power, and not much less hitting. Then you can upgrade elsewhere. For that matter, there's players I'd rather have than that shoeless joe, but maybe you like him.

For that matter, I'm not sure I'd use 32 Whitehill or 31 Zachary in a starting lineup, but maybe you just like them as well

I can't...our options are restricted to teammates of our 16 drafted players

I would take Ruth.
