Walt No Neck Williams Topic

His 1969 season is a decent value play if you draft a team to play in Dodger Stadium.

That said, good luck trying to garrote Mr. Williams ...

Is it true his cranium was fused to his shoulder blades?

A friend and I used to go to Fenway and sit in the rightfield bleachers wearing our Yankee caps during Red Sox-Yankee games, and we would make loud comments about No Neck Williams going into the stands to service Fred Lynn's trophy wife, Dee Dee. We were not popular, but remarkably escaped with our lives.

In mid-1975 the Yankees played a series in Boston when the pennant race was still close (the Red Sox went on to win the pennant, then lost to Cincinnati in 7 games). During a scoreless tie game, the Red Sox put a runner on third and then the batter hit a sac fly to center. No Neck caught the ball and then wound up to throw home. He wound up as much as I've ever seen an outfielder wind up to throw home. His throw went almost straight up, and the ball landed about halfway between No Neck and the shortstop. The runner scored and, in that moment, I got a sinking sensation the Yankees wouldn't win the pennant.

No Neck was actually a decent OF'er, but that throw home wasn't one of his finest hours.

that '73 Topps card of Walt shows a vintage John Shaft wannabe look.

No Neck doesn't look like he's swinging that bat to play baseball. He looks ******.

Apparently though, Dan Ford eventually inherited those lame-*** Pearl VisionCare frames from No Neck ... as seen below here.
