About 50 games into my OL:

Silver Slugger - 3B - Mel Ott

R 2b 3b HR RBI BB Avg/OBP/Slug

Ott 25 8 3 6 28 27 .293/.402/.507

Williams 30 10 0 13 58 12 .309/.342/.549

So, is it the 3 triples or 15 extra walks that gives Ott the edge?

Neither, it's the 60 points of OBP.

I can see a strong argument for Williams, but OBP is the most important of any of the stats you have listed above. Ott has a wide advantage in it, and WIS appears to weigh it heavily in their calculations for awards.

If I recall correctly, MVP rankings correspond with the Runs Created leaderboard.

Not disputing you contrarian, but it would seem kind of dumb to base a slugging award heavily on OBP.

On the awards front, I recently completed the regular season using a player OOP at 3B (wanted to see how his near 4 real life range factor played out over the season). He has an A+ range factor, obviously. To my surprise, he won the Gold Glove with a .926 FP (24th out of the listed qualifier) and ended up 14th in the RF isting at 3.14. Playing in 153 games at the hot corner he made 36 errors. He did, however, have 21+ plays which is clearly the reason SIM gave him the gold glove.

Ott 31.44 7.56

Apparently it's based upon RC27...runs scored, home runs, rbis have no bearing...does MLB award Silver Slugger awards using same criteria?

it does seem like + plays are the overriding factor...

Fielding is weighed heavily into other awards too.

I had a Pujols win the MVP a while ago with an average of like .260 and 30 HR...but he had something sick, like 40+ plays at first and a .998ish fielding %.

Well, I guess Silver Sluggers are not based upon RC27. Although 7 of 9 Silver Sluggers in my league do lead their position in RC27, the other 2 do not...

The MVP race does not mirror RC or RC27 either...

I think that "Slugger" in the name of the award is misleading. As far as I know, the real MLB award is intended to recognize the best hitter at each position - not necessarily the best "slugger." I think they were just going for an alliterative name (akin to Gold Glove) rather than trying to imply the use of any specific stat in identifying the winner.
