Box score quiz: Explain this oddity Topic

Here's a interesting trivia question for all of you. In my pm2 game I had a player, Brian Hunter, who came in as a pinch hitter. In the box score, he recorded two ABs. He did not stay in the game as a defensive replacement. After reading through the play-by-play I figured it out. What happened?

The team batted around the order in the inning, must have been quite a few runs scored there, nice

Your team batted out of order?

My guess is he came in with two outs and there was a caught stealing to end the inning, then he came up the next inning to lead it off.

If that had happened, he would have played the field in the intervening half-inning. Once the pinch hitter is announced, the player he batted for is out of the game.

Also, in the scenario you described, he would only have been charged with 1 at bat, not 2.

But he still ended up looking so bad the other team felt bad and decided to let him try again.

Yep, team batted around. Hunter the PH led off. The team actually only managed 5 runs. Six consecutive singles, two outs, single, out. Hunter grounded out to end the inning. It was a game at Wrigley, from the Build-A-Bear theme league (season 2 just starting, check out the classifieds).
