Should I start platooning? Topic

On my 04 Progressive team, I have y Eric Chavez as my regular 3B, he has been hitting well and playing great D A-/A+ since I picked him up. The thing is I just noticed is that he is hitting under 200 against ies. On my bench I have Jose Hernandez who has hit 352 against ies and has higher real life batting avg and slg than Chavez. The thing is his defensive ratings are C+/D-. Should I be platooning or leave Chavez as the full time starter? I will likely have to face Randy Johnson 04 in playoffs.

Thanks for the input.

I platoon as much as I can in progressives. If Hernandez is close to Chavez in talent I would platoon them.

I agree. Especially if they're close. The way I see it, I don't mind bad D on the short side of the platoon, even if I wouldn't want it for 162 games.

I'm a big fan of playing the matchups. one question to ask is how high are your opponents pitch counts? If he faces a y starter for 5 innings and then righty relievers for 4 innings you haven't gained much for the bad D.

So long as you have Chavez set to come in as a defensive replacement in the late innings, you should be good with the platoon.

platoon and set your defensive replacements to substitute with a lead in the 7th inning with a 2 run lead. you don't want hernandez blowing it for you in the last third of the game.

I had been platooning before I got Chavez and then stopped when I got him. The 1st game since I started platooning again, Hernandez went 3 for 4 with 2 HR and 1 error that didnt lead to a run.

I think I will call this a very good idea, in the 6 games he has started since I started platooning, Hernandez is 13 for 26 with 5 HR. He has made 2 errors, 1 or which almost cost a game but overall I will call it a success.
