What park to use? Topic

I have 2 scenerios:

great AVG batting mediocre pitching

great SLG batting mediocre pitching

Would I take parks to maximize my hitters or take parks to minimize my pitching and hurt my batting?

Go middle of the road no plus or minus?

In scenario one you take pitchers with solid WHIP and bad HR/9 and/or HR/9+. Play in a -HR park with neutralish singles and maybe + for doubles or triples if your guys hit a lot of those. In scenario two you take pitchers with good HR/9 and/or HR/9+ and play in a +HR park that is NOT + for singles.

And tark, how do people who don't want to feed you what to do on a silver platter "not deserve respect." Most of them learned it on their own.

point made, that was unfair and I understand your point but I actually was referring to the forum trolls who come into a serious thread, insult you then bait you. I have no problem with the "you have to earn your own chops" post just the ramdom attacks ones. I have polluted this person's thread enough

I like parks that allow cigar smoking

this is true, tark - it's not that there aren't dozens of guys(gals) who wouldn't mind helping out, or discussing further, certain startegies. However, that said, to post specifics(whether it be players, ballparks, etc) and ask hypotheticals is opening up an avenue for such responses.

In another thread, a certain someone was ragging incessantly about how his success rate was 60% and those without teams shouldn't post, etc, etc(you know the thread - you were there).
He went on to take a poke at me & the fact I have over 30K games played with only one championship. He doesn't realize(or take into account) that I spent the first 2 years on this site asking very few questions & taking my lumps on what worked & what didn't. Hell- I didn't even know what the forums were about. I just joined OL after OL. I got a few tips from some(legendary) owners on how to research the forums & utilize them that way. (I also have a weakness for taking over abandoned Prog teams and turning them into solid contenders - I'm good at that. But it also tallies up the losses at a rapid pace....I digress....)

My point is, there are some who feel that owners should carry the equipment to earn a spot on the team bus. I don't agree, but they're out there.

...and I go with dahs' scenario 1. Draft accordingly

Perfect thanks, The reason I asked on this one is because this is the first time I haven't had fairly balanced teams. The hitting is just way better than the pitching.

pick a ballpark to maximize your strengths and minimize your weaknesses. here's a good rule of thumb, pick a +HR park if you expect to hit more HR than you give up. same for other categories.

I might add that the seasons limitations also should have an influence on who you pick, and where you put them. A league which begins from 1920 or later will almost certainly have plenty of HRs hit, and even a -4 park won't save a pitcher with high HR surrendering tendencies. More generally, I think the more extreme pitchers parks make it harder for you to make a season killing mistake. I select the same parks consistently, because as I got used to them, I have a better feel for who will do well in them. In a '50s league, I had the idea of a high BA team, in Municipal, with low OAV pitchers, regardless of the HR numbers. A 55 win season was the result.
