Hack or Averill? Topic

I'm using either 1930 Hack Wilson or 1936 Earl Averill as my 3rd outfielder in a high cap league ($140M). Money's not a major object - if I take Averill I'll have a little money to pick up a half-decent pinch runner; with Hack, I'll have a cheap bench player who probably would only see action as a pinch hitter in extra innings games. Both guys normalize poorly. Averill has a higher AVG, Hack has more power. The rest of the team is made up of primarily high average, high OBP, fairly high doubles hitters. Obviously Averill would fit in a bit better with this theme. However, Hack still hits for a solid average and similar OBP to Averill. I am leaning towards Hack since the team only has 1 other hitter with real HR power and I don't want to be totally over my head in road games in +HR stadiums. Thoughts?

Do you mean Hack Wilson? I'd probably go with Wilson just to have someone with some pop in the lineup. He should also walk more which should make up some for the lower average. If you already had some add'l pop I'd probably say Averill though.

I did, thanks. The only other pop on the team is Hornsby; the rest of the guys have little or no power. Your thinking is generally similar to mine...

Also, depends on which pitchers you may face. If it's heavy on pre 1920 pitchers I might lean towards Averill
