I've never even heard of him before. Has anyone ever used him at a higher cap. I'm lookin to use him in 140 mil.

He used to be an OL stud. Those #'s look a little high to be "successful" at 140 but not many pitchers are.

He used to be pretty solid at higher caps but my recent experience has not been that great with him. If you use him, you'll want a - hr park as he'll give up the dingers.

His main weakness is he walks more batters than you would probably like.

But he's not too bad considering the price for higher $ leagues.

This was him in a $160mil league

46 games

23-16

302 innings

5.19 ERA

.284 OAV

1.64 WHIP

3.04 K/9

4.44 B/9

what was the league average? I would suspect the league ERA was probably a little higher than 5.

Yes, League average ERA was 5.95.

He actually did better than I thought, he’ll eat some innings for you, and I didn’t use him to his maximum innings. But he was #6 in total walks given up with 149.

He was in a -2/-2 HR park, and only gave up 9 HR’s.

I actually thinks walks aren't that bad in high cap leagues. Those leagues tend to have really high slg %,I would rather give up a walk than a double.

All other things being equal, I'd rather have the OAV pitcher than the low BB/9 pitcher in high cap leagues.

From Wiki

"Ford is best-known as the creator of the "emery" or "scuff" ball, a pitch that was thrown with a ball that had been scuffed with a piece of emery. Ford won 26 games in his rookie season of 1910, becoming only the third player in major league history to win 20 games and strike out at least 200 batters in his first season."

He faded pretty quicky... IIRC, he was the only (or one of a very few) emery ball pitchers when he first appeared in the league. Soon there were lots, and perhaps the batters got used to it.

I agree with this completely. I have played in couple of very high cap leagues where the effective salary (6 WAA pick your own AAA) is like 200M and I aimed for very low normalized #oav as opposed to low #bb/9. If you want a low whip pitcher, you have to balance these 2 numbers and I would gladly give up a walk than a hit.
