yes I'm a newbie to this site don't throw things at me! I've joined a sim league and I noticed that many owners have sent down their "real" players and called up the aaa players the strategy escapes me. some of the players sent down are really solid players can you explain?

My guess is they are using a fatigue strategy.

What that means is they draft a great player that only has lets say 500 at bats. They pick up a AAA player use the heck out of them and hope to win a few games with AAA. Then when they bring back there great player they are rested and better than you 600 AB player that costs the same amount.

thanx for the info I have a lot to learn. as much as I know about the game I have followed since I was 10 (46yrs old) I am unwilling to pull the trigger on trades because the other player may be a vet on the game and I don't want to screw up

careful, when tark refers to a player that is a solid player he may not be looking at the player's actual stats. For example, suppose he saw Griffey Sr being sent down and assumed he was a solid player but the Griffey Sr that was sent down was a 1988 version worth $231,000 with 53 PA. that wouldn't be a solid player necessarily. He would be a player that would fatigue miserably with one game and need to be sent down to sip lemonade/vodka and chase women. depends on who tark is referring to. I doubt a 1978 version of Griffey Sr would be sent down even if someone were employing a "fatigue strategy".

I am totally no expert, but I do have a couple friends that have been playing for awhile.

Read all the forums and if you have and questions, mail me I will be happy to help.

By the way, if my answer here is wrong, someone will let us know.

I've been fishing through the forums and much of the info involves the theme leagues One thing I have found is even though you know the player and his ability that doesnt mean he will play well

Use your aaa players as spot starters and to rest you regulars in blowouts. Put all your money in your regulars, not reserves. That is unless you plan to platoon, something myself I haven't had alot of success with. I try not to let my regulars fatigue below 98 unless I'm in a heated race.

i bumped up biglenr's Advice for newbies for you tark...

You must also must set your player rest heirarchies. Just checking rest when winning or losing by xx number of runs won't do it. This saves valuable at ab's.

I haven't touched the heirarchies yet thanks for the advice

There is also a way to "ID" your aaa players. They are actual players from the past, this gives you an idea what you "might" expect from them. Don't count on aaa pitchers for much other than mopup duty.
2/8/2010 2:27 PM
I saw a thread that mentioned the aaa "ID"ing not sure how helpful it will be it seems that whatever you do the aaa players are not to be depended on
2/8/2010 2:36 PM
hey, there's other strategies besides the dreaded fatigue strategy. I send pitchers and part time hitters to AAA all the time simply because they need some rest and I want to use the roster spot while they're resting. they're coming back the next day or so. No using the heck out of anybody.

I would also be interested in your take on defense I saw a thread that stated that the most important stat for ss and 3rd is fielding, for second base range but what about of
