Question for progressive league creators Topic

After a season, How do you know what the available players for next season are? Do you compare every roster to the WIS draft center?

If you are in a 24 team league. Are there enough players to draft without using AAA or WW?

There are different ways of doing it. A very common way is to download a list of all available WIS players for any given season, and then to delete all players who are listed on keeper rosters. This then gives you your available draft pool.

As to your second question, in most historical seasons the answer is no. I would hazard that only from 1993 on (when MLB expanded to 28 teams) are there enough players to staff a team, and even then there are no guarantees.

If you really want to use older seasons without including AAA, you probably have to consider either smaller progressives (eg 12-16 teams) and/or run a multi-season progressive (for example, use players from 1901 and 1950 in season 1, then 1902 and 1951 in season 2, etc.)

Thank you for the answer. That leads me to another question. Where and how do you download the list of all available WIS players for a season?

'69-onward is fine for 24 teams, with a few below average AAA guys. Sometimes you won't even need to use them, but it's not uncommon for a team to lack a few ABs at MIF or C.

You might want to mark with an * the rookies in every seasons pre-draft available player list.

This probably isn't the popular way, but what i do is search all players for the season i am entering in the draft center. I type them into the available players list, then i delete any keepers. Surely this takes longer as you have to type hundreds of names 1 by 1, but my computer can never seem to download the spreadsheets.

Also, i agree that anything after the 1969 Expansion works with 24 teams.

one of the things that has happened in several progressives of the earlier years, is to draft to a set number of players...(say 20, but you have to do the math relative to the available number of players) and leave the remaining players as pool players, so you don't have to use AAA.
