What is the best way to get as many defensive double plays as possible? Is the key to get great range from the middle infielders? Or is it the better fielders?

Thank you in advance for any insight.

Groundball pitchers.

high range at 2B and SS... 1B might help too.

Groundballs are almost entirely determined by the hitter, not the pitcher.

Thanks for the help guys.

Franco, but as far as whether something is a fielders choice or a double play, is that influenced at all by anything?

In my first team, i have two guys with A+ range at 2b and SS and happen to create alot of DP's for the defense, so that brought up my question.

Remember too, if you have high K/9 pitchers the less the ball is put into play. You can only get one out on a K (unless it's a broken hit and run play...K/CS). With low K/9 the more the ball is put in to play which will increase the chances of a DP most especially with good D.

As well, if you have an awesome performing staff with very low WHIP even with the above you may not be in the top 5 or so in DP's for what should be obvious reasons.

the best way to maximize double plays is to have pitchers who allow a lot of baserunners. you can't have a DP if nobody is on base.

but seriously, range at 2b and SS is supposed to be related to DPs, also at 3b and 1b to a lesser extent. nobody is sure how much. I've looked at Performance History and I've looked over stats of finished leagues and it seems like only a small factor.
