Pitching in Dodger Stadium Topic

I'm preparing for an open league team in Dodger Stadium and have a tentative pitching staff that sets up as follows and need input of its potential to work and any suggestions:

IP ERA WHIP

02 Bill Bernhard (SP1) 259 2.20 .94

97 Pedro Martinez (SP2) 242 1.90 .93

14 Dutch Leonard (SP3) 238 0.96 .89

03 Guillermo Mota (LGA) 105 1.97 .99

06 Mariano Rivera (LGB) 75 1.80 .96

19 Ray Caldwell (SUA) 62 1.71 .99

07 George McQuillan (SUB)46 0.66 .78

06 Dennys Reyes (CL) 51 0.89 .99

I also selected 5 $200K mop ups for 180 IP

Awesome staff. IMO you will need another 200+ inning starter to make it through 162 games.

I agree with Truemen.Dump one of the starters.Pick up a 400 inning eater like Cy Young.

I think you have more than enough IP, especially when you factor in AAA and your 10%. Use your $200k pitchers and AAA pitchers wisely and you'll do very well.

You only have 973 real-life quality innings, assuming you can get ~1100 sim innings from them, that means you will need ~400 from your scrubs and AAA. That could be tough given that you can only have 13 pitchers on your roster at a time.

1258 innings is enough for dodger stadium. If you draft the minimum innings for an OL, you'll have enough for any stadium not named Hilltop or Coors.

It's going to be close. You're basically gambling on having a decent AAA pitcher to throw into the mix. You have 1078 RL quality innings (sorry to correct zubinsum -- he didn't count Mota). If you go with a straight 3-man rotation of Bernhard, Martinez and Leonard, their fatigue numbers will drop into the 90's about 1/3 of the way through the season and the 80's later on unless you keep them on really low pitch counts -- maybe 70/game tops.

If you have a AAA pitcher who can start or is a dependable long reliever, you should be in good shape. Otherwise, you'll burn up Mota using him for spot starts as your rotation wears out. Be careful of Caldwell's walks.

If that rotation works for you, you obviously have a lot of money for hitters. Dodger Stadium is a great singles park. Load up on Ralph Garr-type players. Boogerlips' rule of thumb of a 3:1 ratio of hits to walks is probably a good one. Sorry to encourage Boogerlips with the occasional inadvertent compliment -- someimes it just slips out.

As far as Dodger Stadium being a good singles park, I loaded up with high average and high OBP type players. My team AVG and OBP for my projected starting eight position players is .306 and .395. Hope it works out.

actually, i think you have too good a staff. Respectfully, I would look for bargain pitchers, and get more innings. I just finished a league where i tried a similar stategy, different names, and my entire bullpen was in the blue the entire second half of the season. I still won my division, but it is hard to feel confident heading into the post season like that. There are plenty of pitchers who will do very well in OLs that can give you the innings, and not hurt your W-L. I will do that myself, next time.

Mota can't spot start with an IP/G of something like 1.3... in game fatigue will kill him early. In fact, the composition of this staff doesn't need Mota at all ($36,000 per IP and can't start). You'll have to rely far too much on your AAA starter. If my recent expereince since the update is any indication, the AAA starters aren't that good. Mine seem to be good for about 70-80 IP per year before the 10% bump.

redwingscup, excellent post. As for me, after losing games 1 &2, I came back to win 3,4, &5. So maybe a rethinking is not in order.
