Albert Pujols is 2nd in MVP voting in one of my leagues and Matt Holliday is nowhere in site, despite the following stats:

Pujols: .269/.397/.444 86H, 17 2B, 0 3B, 13 HR, 60 RBI, 62 BB
Holliday: .330/.417/.532 113H, 20 2B, 5 3B, 13 HR, 61 RBI, 48 BB

Pujols isn't even the MVP on my team, much less the league.

From what I've seen, defense is taken into consideration for MVP voting. And your Pujols has 22 "+" plays (and 0 "-" plays and 1 error) while your Holliday has 0 "+" plays (and 1 "-" play and 5 errors). Big edge to Pujols there.

Still tend to agree that an MVP system that relies THAT heavily on defense is probably not entirely in line with the voting system in MLB. Other than not electing DHs, they don't seem to pay a whole lot of attention to defense.

I hadn't considered defense, but I agree, that's a bit out of whack. Pujols is offering me stellar defense, but at 1B...Holliday is offering me good defense in the OF. He hasn't hurt my team on D and his bat is by far the reason I'm leading my division (albeit with a .500 record).

This isn't that league, knee. I'm using the 2009 Cards at Busch, and oddly enough, my team is sucking a lot more at home than on the road.
