Starter 4a 4b? Topic

Anyone know why there's no option for a starter 4a /4b?

Actually I do... it would require reprogramming the whole sim engine. It is only capable of saving 6 starters ahead of time, and technically a 4a/4b requires storing 8 (1-2-3-4a, 1-2-3-4b)

I know this came up a while ago and that was the result. You can use tandem 4a/4b and get much the same effect. And that only requires storing 4 :)

Agreed...I often use the tandem strategy in the #4 slot.

I have used the tandem rotation for the #4 SP, but I think Starter 4A/4B would be a logical improvement. I could alternate 2 low IP SPs in the #4 spot in a 4-man pitching rotation and set the TPC/MPC high, instead of using them as SP/RP with low TPC/MPC. The net results would be the same, but the SP rarely pitches enough innings to get the win in the tandem setup.

here's how I do it. put one guy at #4. come back in 3 days put him at rest and put the other guy at #4. repeat every 4 or 5 days.

Cool Thanks! I think it'd be a nice improvement to add it. I'm not a big fan of Tandems. I'll just have to keep changing it manually. Thanks!

Someone tell me why an A/B setup is better than a tandem.
12/18/2009 12:58 PM
why A/B setup is better than tandem 1. fatigue management, part I. you only burn out 1 pitcher instead of 2, though for twice as long. 2. fatigue management, part II. SP used in relief may not be good for as many IP as starters. 3. you don't trust Sparky to do it right. 4. you believe streaks are programmed in and you want to stick with the hot hand. 5. you think Sim baseball is the same as real baseball.

why Tandem is better. 1. LHP/RHP switch to confound opponents. 2. more opportunities to use pinch hitters. 3. you drafted pitchers with low IP/g. 4. you think in-game fatigue numbers are meaningful.

Tandems >>>>> A/B

I use tandems more frequently than the A/B. I do it more or less because I have to. In progressives, sometimes you don't end up with enough starters and have to get "creative".

I am using these guys in an 85 progressive. They are a combined 11-11. I think both their pitch counts are 40 and they are my "3rd" starter.

I Like 2 different starters because I like to have a deep bullpen.
This allows my guy to come out in the 5th inning or so and either hand it off to my good arms to hold the lead or my poorer arms to eat some innings.
If it was done in tandem there's less bullpen control and the starters usually go into the 7th or so.
That's just what I've found. I still a rookie but I tried both ways and prefer the A/B

maybe one of you wizards can help me with this - how do you start the same pitcher 2 games in a row? I decided to do something different, I spent 23 MIL on Caruthers with the intention of starting him back to back games as I only drafted 2 starting pitchers - I hope I didn't just hose myself....
12/18/2009 6:07 PM
Ya you hosed yourself!
To start back to back make him starter #1 with no other starters. make his rest setting low ie 50.
Why would you want him to ever throw back to back?
I'd start him every other game.
maybe with a Starter 1 Starter 2A Starter 2B set up
