the 2007 Rafael Betancourt. I'm just glancing over the most expensive relief pitchers and he seems underpriced based on his statistics. The other guys with $/IP near his have WHIP generally about 0.10 higher than his and the same or lesser HR/9+. I haven't used him in a while, though, because he always underperformed as compared to my expectations. Is there something misprogrammed on him or something that causes these anomalies? He's still expensive and good, but not as expensive or as good as his statistics would imply he should be.

Compare 2007 Betancourt with 2006 Meredith.

That's an interesting comparison... The price per inning does line up decently, but Betancourt's price is boosted a bit by his greater number of appearances (I'm fairly certain there is a cost associated with GP). Since his WHIP is slightly worse, this makes his $/IP seem perhaps a bit more reasonable. However, the comparison breaks down significantly when you look at their performance histories. Meredith's average ERA is 2.45 in spite of the fact that he has had at least one awful season bad enough to cause noticeable skew even in so large a sample size. Betancourt's is 3.01 with a much more reasonable worst season.
