Returning to WIS: has much changed? Topic

I'm coming back to WIS after a few years away. Many thanks to biglenr for the newbie advice thread. I also saw the Players Revolt thread from 2006 which perfectly captured the state of WIS when I - Richie Ashburn and Taylor Douthit were all the rage and defense ruled the sim.

So I'd be interested to hear what's changed since then and what hasn't. I came across the "What SimLeague Baseball has taught me" thread and it seems the high OBP, high BB/100 strategy is still very common? And that deadball era pitchers are even more popular than they were before?

Is the sim improved?

a new update just came out so we're all starting over. The update closed the loopholes people were complaining most loudly about. guess what? people are complaining about the update.

That's probably the most important thing - there are many different strategies that work now.

Other key things I might highlight:

-- WIS has significantly changed how fatigue is managed. Not sure when you last played, but I expect that the fatigue model will be one of the most important changes you notice. Basically, players need to be used pretty realistically now. It's not perfect, but it's much more realistic.

-- In the most recent update, WIS made a lot of changes to how defense is graded, incorporated into outcomes, and priced. I think it's safe to say none of us really know how all these changes will play out yet.

-- All AAA players can now be easily identified with virtually 100% accuracy (see "AAA - Just the Charts" thread for details)

-- Player search engine is much more powerful and user friendly

Can someone bump the newbie advice thread?

Thanks
