Expected Usage Pattern for Pitchers Topic

Could someone explain whaat this " Expected usage Pattern for Pitchers " is all about. I just stumbeled onto it. Starter = 1/ROT & numerous % in the drop-down. With all the other settings within your team, after your into a league .. I can't figure what all this is about ? Is it critical ?

that is how sparky will set your pitch counts if you ask for recommended settings under your pitchers' advanced settings.

it is only important because you need to note that sparky will try to match your pitchers' RL innings totals if possible. and also that sparky will ignore your pitchers' IP/G in this scenario.

so, setup men are expected to pitch in 42.5% of your team's games. let's call it 70 games.

if you have a pitcher with 140 RL innings and you put him at SetupA, sparky will assume he will pitch 70 games and expect him to pitch 2 innings per game. then his recommended PC will be something like 25/30 or 30/35.

now, if his IP/G is 1.09 he will get killed by fatigue when he hits 20 pitches, so you'll be in trouble if you listen to sparky.

similarly, if you have a pitcher with 35 RL innings, sparky will expect him to throw 0.5 innings per game, so he'll have a very low PC (probably 5/10 or 10/10). if you wanted him to pitch 1 inning 35 times, he won't do that unless you manually change the settings.

What does the Starter = 1/ROT mean ? Does that mean the SP will pitch the rotation you manually set-up ?

It means that if you have a 5-man rotation, each starter will pitch in 1/5 of the games.

Great info Franco...hadnt seen this...Have Pedro at Setup A in a high cap league..wondering why Sparky keeps putting him in for 2-3 innings instead of turning over to Gagne.

Does that mean if I continue to set all players individual "set-ups", such as pitch counts. That it won't matter what is in the "Expected Usage Pattern" area ?

I just found this "window", by accident. I keep changing the Setup A or B .. Long A or B .. from one guy to another. Increase and lower the pitch count drop-downs. etc, etc.

I love this game. And I always loved stats and the thought of putting together an All-Star type team. But, I am having a terrible time winning, even playing .500 ball. Getting the pitchers to perform is my biggest hurdle.

Yes, you are correct. Once you've set the pitch counts, the "expected usage pattern" stuff is irrelevant.

I won't look at anymore. I prefer to set all my own settings. Thanks for the insight. I really enjoy hearing from everyone ... especially the Hall Of Famers. Success talks ... everything else walks.

One piece of advise from a Hall of Famer, all Hall of Famer means is that we've given the site way to much money. It doesn't mean the person is particularly successful.

No offense to anyone in this thread of course, I was more generalizing....

But you've all won some championships ... haven't you ? That means success. I've spent a lot of money and have had only 1 .500 season. Still looking for a winning season and a playoff.
