NL East

st Place-Philadelphia Phillies Connie Mack Stadium-Yes my forecast reads that the Phillies are going to win the NL East in 67. But, its going to be close, not just with one other Team, or 2 other Teams but with 3 other Teams. When I evaluated all 4 Teams and put them side by side, I really didn't see much difference. I see this as a tight race right down to the end in 67. I see the Phillies as the front runners because of there improved Pitching-Catfish Hunter IP 263 Whip 113 OAV .219, Milt Pappas IP 218 Whip 118 OAV .259, Jim Maloney IP 197 Whip 129 OAV .247 and Ray Culp IP 154 Whip 129 OAV .239. On the hitting side the Phillies will look to Lou Brock OF .299 HR's 21 Stolen Bases 52, to lead them. Jim Lefebvere 2B and Round 1 Pick Rod Carew will make an excellent combo at 2B. Danny Cater OF .270 HR's 4 and Jerry May C .272 HR's, will round out the lineup.

cond Place Pittsburgh Pirates Forbes Field-I like the Pirate set up. Their a fast team, Bert Campaneris 55 Stolen Bases-Joe Morgan 29 Stolen Bases, that will find ways to produce runs. George Scott .303 HR's 19, Felipe Alou .274 HR's 15 and Jim Northrupt .271 HR's 15 will have the benefits of having their RBI totals increased by guys who can motor on the base paths. The Pitching will feature Earl Wilson IP 264 Whip 117 OAV .224 and Gary Bell IP 226 Whip 117 OAV .232 and Al Downing IP 202 Whip 109 OAV .251. Bob Veale's decline will be off set by the improved performance by Downing and the emergence of Chuck Dobson. Bob Humprhey provides the Team with a competent Closer, which will be needed in a League with plenty of close games.

rd Place Cincinnati Reds Crosley Field-The Reds have a nice improving Team. They have 3 young Pitchers who, who can be relied on in the present, and who will get better in the future. Phil Niekro IP 207 Whip 106 OAV 218, is going to provide the Red organization with a Preview of Coming Attractions as to what he will be doing for them in the future in 67. Fritz Petterson and Bill Hands, are going to offer the Reds plenty of good ings in the future, but in the meantime they will also offer a preview by combining for 15-20 wins in 67. Denny Lemaster IP 216 Whip 106 OAV 218, will round out the Starting Staff for 67. Paul Linblad will be the Teams Closer with plenty of action.

th Place New York Dragons Shea Stadium-The Dragons have won 4 Straight NL East Division Titles. They have won every year since the League was created in 63. In my opinion thats a great achievement in a Progressive. As a matter of fact, I can't ever recall it being done before. The Dragons, are the Sweet 16's 1st Dynasty who have won 4 straight Division Titles and at least one World Champonship. So, why am I picking them for last in 67, did they get so much worse in a year? Well yes, I did see them dropping a bit, and what Team wouldn't drop after the Retirement of Sandy Koufax, but I still see them in the same range as their competitors in the NL East, and like I said, I see the NL East being contested by all 4 Teams in 67. Jim Kaat IP Whip 118 OAV .260, Bob Gibson IP IP 177 Whip 109 OAV .231 and Rick Wise IP 182 Whip 109 OAV .231, will be the Starters for the Dragons in 67. Compounding the lose of Koufax is a bit of a decline by Kaat and Gibson in 67. But Bob Locker, will provide the Team with Excellent Closer services, that should result in a lot of close wins for the Team. Orlando Cepada 1B .325 HR's 25 RBI's 112 is going to be counted on to make up for some of the loss, on the Pitching side. Muary Wills .302 Stolen Bases 29, will probably be given some additional Green Lights to try and steal a few extra needed runs.. Mack Jones .253 HR's 17, will provide some extra pop to assist Cepeda from the other side of the plate. In any event, no matter where the Dragons finish, I'm sure the fans will be in for a lot of excitement at Shea in 67.
