AAA pitcher for hitter veto revisisted Topic

So, I just joined a post update OL, and someone is advertising that they want to trade away their pitcher for a hitter. Personally, I always vetoed this trade before the update, but since we are required to draft 1250 IP now, the AAA pitchers are nearly worthless. Certainly worth less than a hitter now. You can have a real advantage over other owners by trading off your excess innings to a rookie that doesn't realize he/she doesn't need them.

Comments? Concerns? Scathing rebuttal? Rbow?

The main purpose of those vetoes was to oppose a strategy that may no longer exist. we'll have to see what new strategies become popular before we can accurately value AAA. 5000PA requirement makes AAA hitters less necessary too.

AAA hitters seem to have improved. I'll find a way to use them despite the high PA requirement.

Before the update the reason for the veto would be because of the advantage to the team getting the pitcher...now post update the advantage is for the team getting the hitter. The reason for the veto is to prevent an advantage swing either way. Seems that a veto would mean the same thing now as it formerly had. Prevent advantage swings.

The 5000PA requirement didn't effect me at all, because I usually draft 8 200k backups (and keep them), which most owners don't do. So, for owners who don't manage that way, I wonder if their AAA PAs are excess to the same extent as AAA IPs? Hmmm....

that's the point, AAA relative value depends on the strategy du jour. find a way to play against the herd and take advantage of the imbalance.

Well, there is zero upside in trading FOR a pitcher. So, I think I'm still leaning towards the 'veto' end of this debate.

But with 5000 PAs how many AAA hitters do you need?

Theres lots of ways you can utilize AAA PAs, even with the new minimum. There are zero ways I can think of to utilize a third AAA pitcher.

you can use him if he's better than the 2 you have.

we're required to draft 5000 PA, we're not required to use all of them.

Upgrading from 60innings of 8.5 ERA to XXinnings of 6.5 ERA is a big stretch to justify it.

So you think it is worthwhile to use a roster spot just to eat PA or IP requirements? I'm not so sure.

I have had very, very few AAA pitchers who have done well enough to escape the "mop up" role. I have had plenty of AAA hitters who have played well enough that they became regulars. Sometimes, naivety rules me, but i would trade a AAA pitcher for a AAA hitter any time, and i still veto those trades

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I never veto AAA for AAA trades, as long as there is an even number of players. A veto, in my opinion, is to prevent an obviously one-sided trade. I've occasionally had a pretty good AAA bat, and a few decent AAA pitchers, but never seen one that unfairly swung the balance of power.

I say that if two people want to make a trade, let them, unless it reeks of collusion or someone grossly taking advantage of a newbie's naivete.

I'm experimenting with low PA strategy I'll let you know how it turns out. we have AAA hitters some valued at $1.5-2+M, and it costs a lot less money to create spots for the best of them. That's extra money to spend elsewhere.

Is anybody trying a low IP strategy?
