WHAT’S UP WITH THE WAIVER WIRE Topic

Is it just my imagination, or has the waiver wire layers been seriously downgraded to lesser players, especially pitchers. They're all a bunch of junk.

Oh boy... Another one of these threads.

(1) - Someone started another WW league. This kills the wire for everyone.

(2) - There is no guarantee that there will be any players of any use to anyone on the wire at any given time.

Waiver wire is currently being picked clean by 24 owners in a theme league that requires serious waiver wire activity....give it a few days, it will return to normalcy.

Thank you, Mixtroy. I'm glad someone asked.

1. Why should 24 owners have the ability to kill the waiver wire for everyone? 24 people should not be able to change the playing field for the rest of us...even for a minute. **** poor timing with the changes that just took effect, and some of us not sure how the changes are going to effect play.

2. If there are no guarantees then there shouldn't be a guarantee to a theme league that is based on waiver wire acquisitions either, yet 24 owners are allowed to pick the waiver wire clean at the expense of everyone else that is participating in MLB SimLeagues.

This has happened before. It wasn't the right thing to do then and it isn't the right thing to do now. It also takes more than a few days for the waiver wire to correct itself. If this type of theme draft is allowed then there needs to be a high entry fee...a very high entry fee...because of the effect it has on the rest of the sims customers. If they're paying for the right to have priority over the rest of the leagues I have no problem, but if they're paying the same or nearly the same as everyone else they are taking advantage of EVERYONE.

A higher entry fee? Are you kidding?

By the way, I have 12 teams aside from my "WW" team. What I did for those teams was, I drafted what I needed and didn't rely on the WW. I think for just one of them have I used the WW, and I felt lucky to find some players I could use. I sure didn't feel that WIS owed me useful players on the WW.

we don't have priority over the other leagues. We happen to need it more than others do perhaps, however, there is no priority given to anybody in this theme. We have to monitor it the same as everybody else.

I bet if you look at a typical OL with say 5 or 6 new guys there would be even more WW transactions than in this league.

just out of curiousity, what do you do in this ww league? do you have to draft scrubs and then upgrade to whats on the ww during the year?
10/23/2009 4:48 PM
nvm. just read the other thread.

Wow, somebody is full of himself today... If everybody deserves equal access to the WW, then why should people in WW leagues be limited? Lots of noobs make lots of WW moves. Should they be retroactively charged a makeup fee? I haven't used the WW in 30+ teams except the prior installment of the general manager's league. Build a good enough team to start with and it won't matter. The extra fee to use the WW means it doesn't help you... There used to be a loophole I would use where you overdraft innings, wear out your worst starter, and drop him at the transaction deadline. This leaves you with too few IP for a full season, but since you've been gentle with your remaining pitchers they can finish out the last 42 games for you without fatigue issues. The extra money could be used to upgrade offense or the relief corps. Since you now can't go below 1250 IP in an OL at any time, that loophole is effectively closed. Very few themes where you can get away with that strategy.

Well, we had gone about six months since the last one...

I wonder if the update has an effect as well.

Since it is harder to drop high ip guys now.

Those in the WW league have no "guarantee," nor do they have "priority over "the rest of the leagues." To say that people playing a certain theme league should have to pay more is foolish. Instead, perhaps WIS could institute a stupid tax?

Setting up a team and relying on a quick WW pickup is a gamble; some gambles don't pay off, and when that happens only the gambler is to blame.
10/23/2009 7:36 PM
It is pretty simple.

Does having the capability to have a WW league really matter that much to the viability of this game? Why even allow it.

Is everyone so bored with this game that it takes something as stupid as a WW league to keep interest high?

10/25/2009 8:17 PM
Yeah, let's outlaw all "silly" themes and just play all the same players in OLs. FUN!

By the way, the broken WW is already fixed. Lots of good players have been on and off it the past 24 hours.

10/25/2009 8:43 PM
Sorry, I forgot 255M cap leagues were "theme" leagues too. I guess you could still join one of those and complain about how Eck is giving up way more BBs than RL facing Ruth, Bonds, McGraw, Mantle, Williams, etc. every at-bat.
