Some thoughts on the upgrade. Topic

I think split-squad strategy is more tempting because premier players are more affordable. I might even try it myself. not a true fatigue strategy, my B squad won't be tired and will win a few games.

Waiting to see how the errors play out. some numbers posted on here are probably exaggerated. if not, we're in trouble. so far, Honus Wagner 0 errors in 6 games and he's hitting the cover off the ball.

my latest team has $1.8M of useless high PA deadbeats. I'll pay that much to use my AAA hitters.

I've got a David Eckstein at SS on a Caruthers/Hecker team at 70 GP in an Open League. His fielding dropped from A/C to B/C, and he's fielding behind two old-time SPs. So far in the season, he's made 12 errors -- but half of them have occurred just since the update.

Happenstance or an indication of what the changes mean?

In my humble opinion there is a major flaw in the calculation of pitchers salary: Fielding

The price you pay for a good/great fielding pitchers is a waste of money. The amount of fielding plays a pitcher gets over the course of a season is not worth the extra money.

Actually, the defensive era of the pitcher is now part of the hitting algorithm, so that should be factored into the salary as well...

You know what, I think I'm wrong. I was comparing a couple of relievers and it appeared that the better fielding pitchers were considerably more money for nearly identical actual numbers. But then I looked at the hitting stats, and there's the rub.

Hitting for relievers should cost little. Unlike starters, how often do they get to bat?

If you play LIVE they can bat a lot.

Hmmm. So those of us who don't play live are paying a "tax" to subsidize those who do?

Maybe in the next update they'll give us separate data bases for livers vs. autopilots.

Some of us like playing GM but not field managing...

Well, pitchers' hitting stats are downgraded unless they had significant ABs (I think it's the 50 that most hitters need, but it might be lower). Anything under the number is brought up with some pretty poor hitting. So the only way you're paying for the pitchers hitting is if he had a reasonable number of ABs. Which means he probably was a starter or at least pitched 3-4 innings regularly. Meaning he has the IP/G for you to put him in a starting role or multi-inning long relief, giving you the opportunity to let him bat and thereby profit from his strong offense.

Something else about the new update that I just noticed.

The Waiver Wire effect.

Let's say you dump Hi West, for whom you paid $200K. Guess what? He reappears on the wire for $464,000, his new, post-update price.

That's standard for after price changes... they do that all the time

Since the Eckstein anecdote above I have seen no clear effect on fielding except that some players now have better/worse ratings and different prices...
